Rats are very intelligent considering the size of them

Very true and Rocky used to dig tunnels in our garden and occasionally take up residence there...he would pop his head out in the morning to say "hello" if he saw you out with a cup of tea or whatever..cute. He also used to climb the cedar tree out back and swing from the smaller branches.

That's amazing Auzgurl - how did he protect himself from your cat & other predators? He must have loved your family to stay around the house like that. I know wild rats hang around sometimes - but it's sounds like a first for a domestic rat.
