Council urged to intervene as temporary fence creates daily horror in coastal town. Residents have reported being traumatised by the sound of kangaroos repeatedly crashing into the structure until they die.
Residents of an ordinarily quiet Victorian town have been traumatised after the installation of a temporary fence near a new development.
The structure is understood to block a thoroughfare used by a mob of kangaroos, causing them to repeatedly crash into it.
The problem is common when fences are quickly erected in known wildlife habitat.
The kangaroos encounter the fence as they attempt to hop across the bushland around the waterfront of Paynesville, a scenic lakeside town in East Gippsland.
Local wildlife rescuer Susie Pulis describes the fence as a "death trap" because it impedes the route the animals have used for generations.
Three days after it was erected on August 11, she found a mum and her joey dead beneath it.

This is absolutely crazy! The residents should just tear it down. Why don't they?
