Ramadan Night Markets Fairfield
I can't find a current link to this but it was just on the news.
Fairfield Council wants government funding to help run their ramadan night market. The state government offered $500,000 but they say that's not enough. They want a couple of $million.
They say the market caters to more than 1.7 million people and their religious and cultural event should be subsidised by the state/federal government/taxpayers.
5 million people in Sydney and 1.7 million patronise the ramadan night market. Do the math!
Meanwhile non muslim residents are complaining about the noise, rubbish and road closures that go with it. I wonder who will win?

Do local community markets usually get government funding? Funding from local businesses and community groups I would expect, but government?

I think Ramadan is about six months away. I might keep an eye on what is happening. I haven't been to Fairfield for about ten years or so. I wonder what it's like these days. Would I have to bring my husband with me and wear a headscarf?

I don't think I've been to Fairfield - ever. I have been to Auburn and Strathfield ... but mostly I just pass through as I travel up the M4 to the Mountains. I remember Strathfield from the old days only because an old boyfriend came from there but it is nothing like it is today. The people used to be Anglos ... hard working ... law-abiding ...
Another time, another era. I just do not recognise my country any more. I do not recognise the people. Whenever there's another murder or drive by shooting - basically on the news nightly - reporters speak to the residents who all seem to be Middle Eastern or Indian or Chinese or Africans.
I can't imagine what Ramadan night markets would be all about. And I guess I will never find out. But yes, I would say it would be prudent to wear a headscarf and safer to have hubby there to keep you in line. Or maybe even for protection.

But not even Hulk Hogan could save you. Hulk Hogan uses his bulk. Mussos use guns.
The Hulk is the saviour of the Universe.
