25 years wouldn't be too bad.
I agree very much that the 'politically' correct lines drawn (like legal to have sex at 16) are 'totally incorrect'.
The stress of 'kids', even at 19, having to grow up before their time - does have its backlash.
Childhood should be a time of, well - innocence and the joy and freedom that it gives.
Those who experience the full wellbeing of childhood, handle adulthood far more easily and I have no doubt, have better 'souls' for it.
As for immigrants not assimilating?
It's the hardest subject to deal with.
Sydney prioritises the International scene, while Melbourne prioritises the Domestic Scene. Both are essential.
Sure, immigrants need to learn the Domestic ways, but the Domestic born need to learn the International ways too.
Or they'll end up like the Aborigines - left behind in all things of 'the rest of the world'.
It's a double-edged sword - cultural enrichment as it comes from both Endo and Exo directions.
In Melbourne the 'domestic black' (aborigine) is given a cultural respect (Koori), but the international blacks (like Sudanese) are treated as a 2nd class citizen.
Go to Sydney and its the reverse. The Abos of Redfern, etc are the 2nd class citizens, but Blacks from overseas are more respect and are respectful in return.
Which is the right 'racism' against blacks? Sydney or Melbourne?? Even Adelaide and Brisbane have their cultural class directions.
It's up there with City people superior over Country (rednecks). Personally, I think city people are 'savages' compared to country people in Australia. But America might differ?
Take the Australian States: Each one 'influenced' both directly from the domestic level and from the international... like:
Queensland = North America
NSW = Oceania
Victoria = South America
Northern Territory = Asia
South Australia = Middle-East (hence the amount of 'religious' buildings)
North WA = Europe
South WA = Africa
Tasmania? Well, maybe they're an independent nation unto themselves reflecting this 'region' of Sahul itself?
I've lived in Sydney and Melbourne. I've experienced the 'difference'.
Sometimes, new immigrants don't know how to 'assimilate' because their guess as to what really constitutes as Australian is anyone's guess as well as theirs.
Like I said Mellie. A very hard topic indeed.

"Like I said Mellie. A very hard topic indeed"
Hard, but it's something our government and politicians really need to nut out.
I feel they just get in, do what's within their comfort zone, the bare minimum to get their golden pensions, then hand the mess over to the newly elected government, only for the cycle to continue.
Like a hot potato.
The problems aren't anything new, nor are they going away, it's just they're at crisis point, and we feel that doing nothing is more comfortable than trying to make a meaningful difference.
We have this attitude towards our blacks, absolutely, just as they have their long held grudges towards us.
This "us" and "them" factor and a "theirs " and " our" Youths, government, elders problems etc is what continues to stoke the fire.
The difference between American Blacks, and ours is very clear.

Indeed.
While living in Melbourne I came up with the saying:
"I love my fellow White (Blonde), Black, Yellow, Blue (Brunette), Red (Ranga), Brown, Green (Olive-skinned) and Grey (Raven-haired, pale-face)...Australians"
"I just hate all the 'foreign' ones!"
I guess there is always more than just one right answer and it is purely up to the individual and 'where' they're at in life.
I've suffered 'racism' in many ways myself, such things that would not be supported as it doesn't go with the Media Narrative and it's version of Racism and Victimhood. Do you think the Media would accept and support the 'fact' that the 'Blacks' are the Racists here, not the Whites?
HELL NO! In fact one would be called a racist by the Media for even thinking it would be otherwise.
As an EL, I am happy to be liberal with Racism as it does have a learning curve in many ways.
Who knows? Maybe it was wrong to be a Nazi against Jews, but it is totally right (for France?) to be a Nazi against Moslems.
Someone once said to me. A British person might call us Criminals for being 'poor' (aka a Financial Crime). But the USA (Media?) seems to call us Criminals for 'sexual' reasons akin to Racism, like an extended version of the 'American South' crime in the Civil War.
Personally, I often say "ALL Moslems are TERRORISTS" because it seems that Islam exists by a 'GROUP MENTALITY' - in other words, one in - all in it together, so to speak. It's definitely not an individual state of the Religion currently. Most of its leaders fall short and are weak (in the Middle-East). Moslems are a 'pack mentality' and a 'mass production'.
...until an individual Australian Moslem stands tall here and condemns his Middle-Eastern 'inferior versions'.
