250 Whales Beached in Tasmania

Post by Black Orchid » Tue Sep 22, 2020 6:03 pm

A major rescue mission to save 270 pilot whales beached off the west coast of Tasmania is underway this morning, with an unknown number expected to die.

Three separate pods spread hundreds of metres apart got stranded on sand bars at Macquarie Harbour yesterday.

At least 25 whales have already died, and rescue teams are now racing to try and leverage an outgoing tide to save the rest.

They are trying different things. Even slinging them to the side of boats and taking them out to deep water. Some swam off and some re-beached. It's so sad.
