What has happened with Malaysian Air is unprecedented. Isn't a government owned and run airline? If so, it might survive. Taiwan just had an air disaster and an Algerian airliner is missing.

I doubt MAS will survive (without merger/rebranding), because of knee-jerkers, and pre-existing financial challenges that are prevalent throughout the aviation industry.

MAS was up for sale/merger sometime ago but because the airline is stacked with govt friends/cronies/nepotists an agreement couldn't be reached.

It will be on the cards now, at least a rebranding. Just shows how quickly a good name and brand can be sullied. Malaysian always had a good rep for full service flights and it was always one of the better airlines to fly to SE Asia for my money.

Now its air Asia simply for the price + attractive hostesses, which is the main reason for not flying Qantas, thanks to unions insisting old boilers are still pushing the drinks cart up until they get an allowance for adult diapers.
