There is such a thing as an appropriate response to a slap, and it doesn't include caving someone's face in in return. Perhaps a smack up the side of the head, or a punch somewhere that hurts rather than harms. Hence the serious conviction he got, for the huge over-reaction. And if having such a conviction breaches SA's bylaws, then tough luck to him.
