TWO alcoholic drinks a day -- the maximum recommended on a regular basis under new national health guidelines -- put people at greater risk of death from alcohol than from drowning, being in a pedestrian accident or an accidental fall.
The long-awaited guidelines, released yesterday by Australia's top health advice body, warn that the health benefits of alcohol have been overstated, and that someone consuming two drinks a day has nearly one chance in 100 ofdying from alcohol-induced injury or illness.
That compares with a one-in-683 lifetime risk of drowning, a one-in-403 risk of being in a pedestrian accident and a one-in-125 risk of a fatal fall.

For God's sake, where will it end?
I rarely go a day without a drink or two - or more. My Dad is 87 and he can drink me and my sisters under the table. When we go to Noosa with him to stay with his 84-year-old sister, they can both outdrink us, (with decent wine and Scotch). I wonder if anyone takes any notice of this stuff.
The better I get to know people, the more I find myself loving dogs.

I am taking this advise very seriously.
Two drinks a day it is for me.
I will just drink out of a bucket from now on.

I drink occassionally..I tend to have a period where I go on an alcohol "thing" and I go buy assorted bottles of stuff..I am sensible about it, of course.
