Yes SM the risk is high, just trying to educate the Yanks that may be oblivious to it. Hence my point and yes, they are both bat and ball games.

Cricket umpire in Israel killed after ball strikes him in the face
Date November 30, 2014 - 3:49AM

JERUSALEM - An umpire standing in a cricket match in the Israeli city of Ashdod was killed after being struck by a ball on Saturday, Israeli police said.

Police said the 60-year-old umpire, who was not named, was taken to hospital in the nearby town of Ashkelon in critical condition where he died of his injuries.

One of the players who witnessed the incident told the Nana10 website that the umpire, standing at the bowler's end, was struck by the ball in his face after it ricocheted off the stumps from a shot that came straight back down the pitch.

The death came two days after Australian batsman Phillip Hughes died in hospital after being struck by a ball during a match in Sydney.

Cricket is not a major sport in Israel but Ashdod is one of the main centres for the sport where a large number of Jewish immigrants from India live.

dunno. why?
Because it has more in common with Cricket than football.
Okay. Don't really know much about American baseball and doubt if there have been any sudden deaths but it is possible. The brain trauma that American football players receive often takes decades to show up but with players getting bigger and heavier by the year even those recently retired are showing signs.

Had forgotten I once knew a Kiwi who had played both cricket and baseball and thought baseball a rather wimpy sport compared to cricket.

Even playing hockey can be dangerous. Here is an article about some guy in England fighting for his life after being hit in the had with a hockey ball.

We have footballers too... and they don't wear helmets.

Some do. It should be compulsory, although it wouldn't have helped that boy recently who became a quadriplegic through a bad tackle. My son played football for years and most of the time I worried. He broke his leg, his arm and got stress fractures in his back before he finally gave up.

No mantra they do not wear helmets...
And yes my point is that like boxers footballers here and in the US do get brain injuries.
But they do not play a game with a bat and ball. Cricket and Baseball are not an equivalent to football, except in the broadest sense in that they are sports. I hardly thing the former are considered contact sports like the latter are.

Then stop bringing up football.
