Always good to have n' help.

I've had a few females (actual medical staff as patients) behave in a provocative manner which has left me feeling a bit WHOAH
But at the first opportunity I get, I usually find an understanding (but amused) fellow female staff member to replace me. ;)

It's easy to identify 'problem patients'. The best signal is that they exhibit pain before you even touch them, etc. I call it 'Soccer Diver Disease'.
You gotta watch them sometimes, because they can lash out physically or mentally with their over dramatics in hope for a lawsuit or just to try and control (Staff) over everything (very demanding attitude). The other is that they let you know they're a Lawyer or Solicitor. Most Surgeons have turned these type of people away.
But this is mostly Private, in Public - the system is 'subordinate' to the whims of non-medical like Religious demands, legalities and so on.

I always worked as if 'in Australia, the worker is right, not the customer'. I made sure, I was in charge. The Doctors and Surgeons loved it. Seeing an AiN 'control the floor' as they say. Majority of patients loved it.

You are so right about that, re- legal&religious threats being considered more concerning to staff than even those they're looking after being part of the profession itself.
I never tell staff I was an RN, my GP knows, only because we actually worked together for a short period in a Sydney teaching hospital, but otherwise I just don't want them feeling uncomfortable or that they need to do everything perfect.
I am a good patient, even my ex ( who doesn't like me- most recent who is my youngest child's dad would agree with me on this I think) when after several hours in labour I still wouldn't use the buzzer after waiting for an anaesthetic specialist to insert my epidural. I knew they were busy, didn't want to bother them, so it was he who charged out of my room and demanded that they hurry it up. Was pointless, I knew this, because anaesthetists are hard to come by if there's been a number of urgent surgicals. This was the case at the Royal Women's in Melbourne this day, because often with larger hospitals ( I did my training and worked at Westmead in Sydney) you get critical patients coming in via care flight, or far more serious emergencies than your perfectly healthy normal deliverie so....

I never complain in hospital, and I've had quite a few surgical procedures. I'm just grateful to be cared for by a system that's honestly doing it's best.

You're right Mellie. I'm grateful for Free Public care, but I expect more of Private. Ive only been a patient once. Strange being on that side of the bed. Had to have a big benign cancer removed after it developed from a vampire love bite, so to speak (long story). I never hinted that I worked the scene. I never complained that I knew better. I never went into denial that I was a nurse when I was really just a patient.
It goes a very long way being nice, considerate and compliant with medical staff. Things move faster, better and sometimes free'er when patients just relax and do their best to get better.

If you were passed out in the shower or for bed wash Mellie. Cold water does wonders. Lol.

I was very strict with myself about professionalism. Ethics for a male is important, as when working in a personal space (nakedness) with people. I'm glad I got used to not feeling anything sexual via Aged Care, before attending to Adults down to 20 years of age. My professional non-sexual demeanor made people relaxed and with no feeling of embarrassment.

Basically, I was always too busy to be distracted by nakedness, modesty whims and sexist demands.

...as for my fellow female staff or visiting female military medic staff? Well, I did get distracted often😍πŸ₯°

If she's born female, then I'm ok with this. Besides, by the time I'll be needing someone to shower me, the last thing she'd be thinking about was my wrinkly old near corpse. πŸ˜…
My mother was a nurse too before she fled the wards for more comfortable pastures, ( better paid job) and I asked her the same question, although I knew what her answer would be.
A big resounding no to a male nurse showering her.
Besides, guys just don't know how to wash us properly anyway, and usually because they're not comfortable washing her private areas, not the way a female does.

Guys are different, there's nothing intricate about guys, but there's some very important rules with females. Front to back , definitely no nasty hospital grade wall soap on delicate areas, and understand this .... we're not as simple as male anatomy.

Females are more prone to a whole host of Issues, especially those with catheters in.
More prone to UTIs etc
If you don't dry us properly, we'll get thrush, or if you dry us too much, we'll get chafed, then get thrush. Particularly the elderly.

Just better and more comfortable all round that clients are washed by same sexed staff, and this is what they aim to do in most cases.

Honestly Jasin, mum and I had White ladies attend to Nan even for her funeral, because we were scared she'd haunt us.
No seriously, we knew how she felt about her modesty, and we respected her wishes.

It's really as simple as that. Don't be offended, it's not a sexual thing, it's just how most of us feel.

And it's not like I have issues with reverse gender roles, I have a male housekeeper, who comes each Wednesday and he does a marvellous job of my kitchen, floors, bathrooms etc.
He's a lovely guy, I feel completely comfortable and safe with him, but I would still request a female to assist me in the shower if I needed personal assistance.
