Eddie McGuire to step down early

Another one bites the dust due to the PC disease that now infests everything.

Eddie McGuire has announced he’s stepping down as Collingwood president.

An emotional McGuire fronted Magpies players, staff and reporters at a press conference on Tuesday to confirm he’ll step aside from his role earlier than expected.

Collingwood will hold a press conference at 4:15pm AEDT, which can be watched in the live stream below.

“I try my best, and I don’t always get it right,” McGuire said.

“Today, effective immediately, I step down from the presidency of the Collingwood Football Club.”

It comes following the release of a report into systemic racism at the club and the furore around the press conference where McGuire called it a “proud day” for the Magpies.

McGuire was planning to leave his role as Collingwood president, which he began 22 years ago, at the end of the 2021 season.
