Subpoenas Authorized For Comey, Brennan, Other Obama-Era Officials Over Russia Investigation

The Senate Homeland Security Committee voted to authorize over three dozen subpoenas and depositions of Obama-era officials involved in the 2016 Russia investigation into the Trump campaign.

The move allows the committee to issue notices for taking depositions, subpoenas, as well as request documents from those involved in the panel’s “Crossfire Hurricane” investigation.

“Crossfire Hurricane” is the code name for the counterintelligence investigation undertaken by the FBI seeking to find links between then-candidate Trump, his associates, and Russian officials.

It also authorizes subpoenas for testimony from individuals related to the Justice Department IG’s review of that investigation, as well as the “unmasking” of members of the 2016 Trump campaign.

Some of the officials named include former FBI Director James Comey, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, and former CIA Director John Brennan.

Fox News reports that there are several other high-profile names for which subpoenas have been authorized, including former White House national security adviser Susan Rice, former FBI agent Peter Strzok, former FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith, and former ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power.

Power was revealed to have requested the unmasking of former national security adviser Michael Flynn seven separate times, despite testifying that she could not recall doing so.

She had reportedly made inappropriate ‘unmasking’ requests of Trump officials of nearly one per day in the final months of Obama’s presidency.

Rice, was also involved in the unmasking requests, despite previously claiming she knew “nothing” about intelligence reports which showed otherwise.

Strzok was removed from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team once messages were discovered between him and his lover, former FBI attorney Lisa Page, showing the pair exchanging rabidly anti-Trump messages.

He was recently seen pushing debunked RussiaGate conspiracy theories involving the President, declaring he still believes Trump is “compromised by the Russians.”

Clinesmith, one of the FBI officials involved in gathering evidence in the Russia investigation, pled guilty last month after he was accused by the Inspector General of altering an email about former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

The subpoenas are a signal that the Republican-led committee is seeking to ramp up the multi-faceted investigation into Obama-era efforts to stop the Trump campaign.

Perhaps now they’ll be compelled to cooperate so America can finally see what happened when the Obama administration attempted to subvert a duly elected President.

Recently, documents from the DOJ indicate multiple members of Mueller’s investigative team “accidentally wiped” their phones after the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) requested them.

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) hints that this might only be the tip of the iceberg.

“You think you’re mad about the phones being wiped? Stay tuned,” he said last week.

Despite transcripts that showed these Obama officials from top to bottom knew there was no evidence of Russia collusion, they continued to push their investigation. Now we need to find out why, how, and who is going to be punished for illegal activity.

“This should never have happened in this country,” President Trump has said. “The Obama administration Justice Department was a disgrace and they got caught. They got caught. Very dishonest people … it’s treason, it’s treason.

The testimony is long and no-one's going to listen to it all. I'll flick through and listen to bits and pieces. Ted Cruz at around the 1:45:00 mark is worth a listen.
