As far as the U.S. being the world leader in coronavirus stats, that's if you trust the Chinese government to be entirely truthful with their reporting.

And Trump didn't say the economy would be up and running by Easter -- he merely said he hoped it would. A leader has to give citizens of his country a light at the end of the tunnel, even if it turns out not to shine as quickly as he might like.

I can see the faithful are compelled to support Trump in everything he does here too.

Compelled to support Trump in everything he does? No.

But if I happen to agree with it, I'm not going to refrain from saying so for fear someone like you might brand me a member of the "Trump faithful."

I could just as easily accuse you of being "compelled" to disparage Trump in everything he does because of your leftist political persuasion.

I suspect (or hope, anyway) that the truth lies somewhere in between.

Oh, right -- Trump should have looked right into the camera and declared, "Fellow Americans, my administration is doing an abysmal job at stopping the virus ... we have no idea what we're doing ... and you're all going to die. Good night and God bless!"

There is a lot more to quote, but I'm not going to hit each comment one by one.

The point is, his White House sessions which are meant to give the public critical and truthful information about the crisis are instead working against that end. Rather, they have become a daily stage for Trump to play his greatest hits to captive audience members.

Nobody's a "captive audience member."

The press doesn't have to attend, the networks don't have to broadcast, and the public doesn't have to watch.

The American people come in search of life or death information, but what they get from him instead is self-aggrandisement, media bashing, exaggeration and outright lies.

So you're now the official interpreter of what the American people think of Trump's daily news conferences? I think not.

As for media bashing, they're big boys and girls who should be able to take what they dish out. And when they stop asking questions that benefit the public and start trying to set Trump up for irrelevant "gotcha" questions -- like "Isn't it xenophobic to call it the Chinese virus?" -- they deserve bashing.

There is little to no public benefit to them. The only times they're of value is when the like of Dr Fauci is allowed to talk and give out vital information but then Trump then sends someone in after him, like Pence, to contradict everything the doctor just said and paint it in a more favourable light to the administration.

When ISN'T Dr. Fauci, Dr. Birx or some medical expert on the stage with Trump during his news conferences?

And I don't see Fauci as contradicting Trump and Pence or vice versa. They come at the crisis from different perspectives -- a doctor has to contemplate worst-case scenarios, and a national leader has to give hope to the populace.

Yes, I've been watching all the press conferences (I am yet to catch the latest one, he may have redeemed himself), not just the one I commented on. As I said, if you compare him to those of other world leaders or even our state leaders in Australia, they're all about him.

Maybe what you're really upset about is the fact that he's getting a 60 percent approval rating for his handling of the crisis.

Or maybe it's simply the fact that when Obama crowed about himself and his accomplishments, the left wasn't offended because they adored and agreed with him. Look, Trump may be bombastic and egotistical, but it's not as if the previous president was a modest shrinking violet.

If you're so sure people know what they need to be doing and don't need Trump to tell them, why aren't they doing it in the US?

Come on, you know the answer to that. You can tell 327 million people to do anything, but that doesn't mean every one of them is going to do it.

By in large it's not the conservatives or the Trump supporters who are observing social distancing. At the time of the presser I was commenting on, 30 states were doing nothing to stop the spread.

There's a difference between "doing nothing" and not shutting down the entire state. Not every state necessarily needs to shut down entirely -- for example, how bad is the outbreak in Wyoming or Alaska?

And all he's doing is boasting about what he's doing while at the same time misleading and exaggerating the significance of it, patting himself on the back as he goes.

Again, show me a politician who doesn't like himself too much.

And apparently Trump is doing a great job of communicating with the public, given his 60 percent rating. What works in one country doesn't necessarily work in another.

This is not what Trump is doing.

He hasn't found the balance of firstly, putting his ego and reelection aside and then giving people valuable information as well as trying to stay positive but realistic.

I get it: You don't like his style.

I don't like everything about his style either. But I do like the way he puts America and Americans first, which is something Obama never really did. He was too busy sucking up to the globalist left, signing treaties (like the Paris climate accord) that made himself look like a good guy in the eyes of some, but actually did little besides screw over the average American.

I mean, what kind of American president agrees to cut 28 percent of his nation's carbon emissions while allowing China -- the world's worst spewer of CO2 -- a 15-year window before they're required to do anything?

He is still campaigning and not leading. He never transitioned out of it, even after taking the oath of office.

Of course he's campaigning to some extent, and that's OK. He's got an election in 7 months.

Do you seriously believe that his probable opponent, Joe Biden, is NOT campaigning when he goes on camera and tries to convince Americans that he'd do a better job with the crisis? I mean, gee, wouldn't it be great if Biden could put aside politics and do what's best for Americans?

It's just beautiful this, tremendous that. Nothing of substance, nothing about staying isolated, acting as if you have the virus in order to limit it's spread, it's all about exaggerating the testing saying they're doing a better job than South Korea, even though per capita the last numbers I saw they're still 30 times worse than South Korea.

Again, it's called "giving the citizens hope."

Was Churchill exaggerating when he tried to convince British citizens that their military was standing firm against the Nazis? Probably. But it's what the citizens needed to hear.

He's still getting those there with him to spin the situation to follow up those giving valuable information such as the doctors to, will spin the situation, confusing the important messages even more.

Apparently at least 60 percent of all Americans are not confused.

Defend him all you like, but anyone can see that he's not doing a good job addressing the people.

Attack him all you like, but most Americans think he IS doing a good job addressing the people. The contrary opinions of an Australian are perhaps worth consideration, but they don't -- pardon the expression -- trump reality.

Unless to the people that still think this is all a hoax to hurt Trump, they're happy to see him try to take advantage of the situation for his political gain and respond to it in such a poor way.

I think what you're most upset with is that Trump's handling of the outbreak has led to an increase in his approval ratings.

But like the people you criticize, you'd undoubtedly have been perfectly happy if he had instead sunk in the polls because of his handling of the outbreak, so let's not act holier-than-thou.

AND her staff had them herding en masse through Sydney airport just 2 days ago totally unchecked!

AND her staff had them herding en masse through Sydney airport just 2 days ago totally unchecked!

I'll go along with this as a one time deal, but this just makes more people dependent on government. I would have voted against it. We need to use this current downtime to isolate and protect our vulnerable and then get back to work. After the disease has ran it's course and we have developed a herd immunity, we can ease our protection of the vulnerable. We can still practice hand washing and social distancing and whatever else is good for our health. Our wealth in America depends on our freedom and work ethic.

My brother and I are taking turns going shopping for our parents. We drop groceries on their doorstep and Mom leaves us baked goods. My parents have a very nice home and Dad rarely leaves home anyway except to go to the home improvement store for supplies. (He's constantly remodeling or installing something.) They do lawn maintenance and clean house for exercise, have very high speed internet and 300 channels on the television. They can phone or video chat with whomever they want, so it's not like a prison. I just wish I could go inside and visit with them. I'm sure it's annoying them also.
