Ah, Human Rights watch? I wonder what it says about the US, 4E? Mmmmm... :roll :roll
I wouldn't know. If you've found something you find inspiring and meaningful, share it with the class.

Of course, you realize the dilemma that would create for you: If HRW decries human rights under Trump and it decries human rights under the socialist regime of Chavez, you can't legitimately accept one and not the other.

You could only defend Venezuelan socialism by rejecting HRW's assessments entirely ... which would also mean rejecting its bad-mouthing of the Trump administration. My my, what a Catch-22!

Leftist media BS ...
On Tuesday, the hosts of CBS This Morning warned viewers that common words and phrases with no racial context whatsoever were now somehow examples of “racism” in everyday life. It was all part of a segment designed to promote a “new book teaching kids the roots of racism.”

“Many headlines referred to the stock market plunge yesterday as ‘Black Monday,’ and that is just one of the subtle and not-so-subtle ways that racism has been braided into our everyday culture,” co-host Tony Dokoupil lectured at the top of the 8:30 a.m. ET half hour segment. He then touted a new children’s version of the book, Stamped From the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America, by CBS News contributor Ibram X. Kendi and co-author Jason Reynolds.

>snip<

A graphic appeared on screen warning of which words and phrases to avoid: “Words With Negative Connotations: Black Monday, Black Sheep, Blackballing, Blackmail, Blacklisting.”

Don't laugh. Our 'progressives' are just as stupid.
Isn't it comforting to know that every white reference is positive ... as when the Cuban press "whitewashes" the atrocities of Fidel Castro.

That's the funny thing. I'm surprised that these moonbats aren't trying to eliminate the word white.

Meee, how many dead under Fascism again? 10 million in the Holocaust. How many dead under Communism, greater than that. How many dead under socialism? Zero. There is a world of difference between the extremes. :roll
So socialism's not so bad in your book, huh? Apparently not, because a few days later you defended it again. Obviously it's important for you to make clear that Chavez was the only true socialist leader of Venezuela.

Chavez may have been a socialist but his successors are not.
Sooooooo ... let's review:

1. You say that there are "zero dead" under socialism.
2. You say that Chavez was a socialist leader.
3. You say that you don't defend totalitarian regimes.
4. However, you have not defined the Chavez regime as totalitarian.

So ... you have one of two choices:

1. Either you admit that Chavez's socialist leadership was totalitarian -- which is an indictment of socialism, or ...
2. You defend Chavez's leadership, which you've already defined as socialistic, despite the documented misery that it caused to average Venezuelans ... and you deny that it was a totalitarian regime -- which would put you on record as endorsing Chavez's socialist leadership.

Take your pick ... this is going to be fun!

Go for it! You'll just end up sounding like every power-hungry Democrat who's trying to get elected by making gullible Americans hate their own country.

Besides, the whiny left never ceases to amuse me with their contradictory reasoning.

On one hand, the U.S. is a vile, racist chamber of horrors for anyone who isn't white. On the other hand, the U.S. isn't doing enough to welcome the waves of uninvited migrants who want to enter the country illegally.

Pretty interesting how a nation that's so intolerably racist keeps attracting illegals by the swarm. You'd think the world's lefties would do them all a favor and tell them not to come here, wouldn't you? PLEASE WARN THEM BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!!

Socialism does not equate to Totalitarianism except in your mind (and I fear most Americans'). Two of the most Socialist states were free, democratic and liberal nations - Israel and Australia in the 1970s. You need to look at the exceptions, 4E. :roll :roll

Now we have the loony left under Pelosi trying to pass a bill to rescind Trump's travel restrictions to/from affected countries where coronavirus infections are high and risky.

The left are running around hysterically spouting doom and gloom yet they are happy with a bill such as this?

I've never seen such outrageous moonbat insanity.

Now now, don't try to change the subject.

You've clearly painted yourself in a corner:

1, You said Chavez was a socialist.
2. You said you don't support totalitarian regimes.
3. The quality of life in Venezuela declined measurably under Chavez's rule.

So ... either Chavez's socialist regime was totalitarian in your book, or it wasn't.

* If it was, then you're admitting that socialism DOES equate to totalitarianism in at least some circumstances.
* If it wasn't, then you're still arguing that socialism DOES NOT equate to totalitarianism ... but admitting that it CAN equate to human misery.

Time to choose ... if you've got the intellectual honesty to do it. Don't worry; I fully expect you to cop out by (1) trying to convince me you didn't say what you actually said, (2) trying to change the subject, (3) trying to put me on the defensive, (4) trying to make imaginative, laughable excuses for why the quality of life in Venezuela declined, and/or (5) avoiding this thread from now on.

Time for popcorn and Junior Mints!
