Ahead of a planned summit between President Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un in Vietnam this week, an Australian man says he was taken from his hotel by Vietnamese police officers who said they were deporting him for visa reasons.

In his time in the country, he had dressed in a Mao-style suit and thick glasses to impersonate the North Korean leader.

"The real reason is I was born with a face looking like Kim Jong-un; that's the real crime," the impersonator, known as Howard X, told Agence France-Presse on Monday as three officials took him from his hotel to Hanoi's airport.

Another man in Vietnam who impersonates Trump - Canadian-born Russell White - has been told he can stay in the country as long as he does not continue to impersonate the American leader.

The problem is that was Kim has "no sense of humour," complained Howard X, who left Vietnam on the same day Kim was expected to arrive by on a train.

"I was personally escorted from my hotel to the airport by the immigration department with 3 officials," the impersonator later wrote on Facebook.

Howard X and White had been in Hanoi for several days, taking photos with curious onlookers and posing as the two world leaders ahead of talks on denuclearisation.

When appearing together, the two men would pretend to kiss. Last week, they held their own fake summit in which they said North Korea would hold back its nuclear ambitions.

They will be on the list and HK will not miss.

Let's see if they have some unfortunate accident in the next few years.

President Trump has made unthinkable progress on Korea: Rep. Babin

Since 1949, the United States and our allies have been engaged in a complicated, high-stakes efforts to reduce the global threat posed by North Korea.

The result? An isolated authoritarian regime with a sophisticated nuclear arsenal many thought unachievable.

While it might be apocryphal that Albert Einstein famously defined insanity as performing the same act repeatedly and expecting a different result, you don’t need to be an accomplished theoretical physicist to see that 70 years of the status quo on the Korean Peninsula hasn’t worked.

Enter President Donald Trump, who was elected to shake up the status quo. With his bold new tack in dealing with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, we are closer to discovering a path to peace than we’ve been in decades.

That progress was unthinkable little more than two years ago.

Instead of the stale, scripted summits of the past where unelected bureaucrats spent months in lukewarm negotiations, Trump has engaged Kim one-on-one. Since the 2018 Singapore summit, North Korea has traded provocative nuclear stunts for diplomatic engagement and a willingness to join the community of civilized nations.

The Hanoi summit is another step in the right direction, but it can only succeed if all options remain on the table.

In his 2017 United Nations address, Trump made clear the consequences of North Korean belligerence. While we extend an olive branch with one hand, Kim knows the other holds arrows.

The path forward won’t be easy.

North Korea won’t denuclearize overnight. The Kim regime sees nuclear weapons as essential for survival. Only with assurance that we have changed our status quo will Kim adjust his.

These talks are not a diversion from other headlines, nor will Trump accept an agreement at any cost. And they are making Americans safer.

North Korean nuclear and missile testing has ceased, and there is hope for peace.

Presidents have won Nobel Peace Prizes for less, and Trump’s progress merits consideration.

Trump gets another one
Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump

It is my honor today to announce that Danny Burch, a United States citizen who has been held hostage in Yemen for 18 months, has been recovered and reunited with his wife and children.

I appreciate the support of the United Arab Emirates in bringing Danny home...
