We Are Now 'Undesirable' in Russia. Here's What You Need to Know.
On July 10, 2024, Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office declared The Moscow Times an “undesirable” organization, accusing us of “discrediting the decisions of the Russian leadership in both foreign and domestic policy.”

Here’s what you, as a reader of The Moscow Times, need to know:

For non-Russian citizens:

Reading: It remains completely safe to read our journalism.
Sharing and Donating: You can safely share our articles on social media and donate to us.
For Russian citizens:

Reading: It is still safe to read our journalism.
Sharing: Reposting, forwarding, or hyperlinking to our articles is now punishable by an administrative fine of 5,000 to 15,000 rubles ($58-173). Repeated violations could result in one to four years in prison.
Past reposts: Russians have also been fined for reposts of “undesirable” content made before the designation. We recommend removing past reposts of our materials from your social media pages.
Donating: It is now a criminal offense for Russian citizens to donate to The Moscow Times, with punishments of up to five years in prison.
