I watched/listened to it for most of the day!

Fascinating to see how the appeals court operates.

Each of the three judges had folders of information that were continually referred to , the defence must have had a massive team of lawyers preparing this

If this case was opened on one mans word with NO evidence then why isn't the Bill Shorten Rape Case Reopened ??

This women has been trying to get justice for most of her life and can't get people to investigate it - but one man cries about Pell and all HELL breaks loose with the Fake New Media baying for blood!!

its been a while since the court case... but I seem to remember I had reservations

cant recall now...will have to go back. I dont know about court rules or etiquette

but I do remember being a bit suss about the "victims" evidence....

to be honest I dont think he had a fair trial..from memory his legal was hopeless.

The previous trial may have been about Pell, but the appeal equally has Victoria on trial.
What has happened to an Australian state where you can find 12 jurors who will agree to convict a man beyond reasonable doubt based on heresy evidence from a single claimant's decades old memory? Of course they were drawn from a fetid electoral pool of low IQ dribbling morons who would elevate a swivel eyed stroke victim impersonator to premier, hold annual marxism conferences and a plethora of university snowflake factories of useless degrees like Latrobe that have been the Petri dish for growing pustules like Roz Ward and enable her to foist sick homomarxist ideology onto children.

By the end of the day some media outlets were starting to suggest that the jury may have got it wrong.

They are starting to lay the groundwork for whats to come, IMO.

This guy says that Pell attacks him and another child.

The other guy, to the day he died, always denied that Pell touched either to them.

The minute this guy dies - Pell is dragged to court and its one on one with the accuser.

None of he evidence against Pell stacked up, not one bit.

Even yesterday - at the time of the alleged incident - the Church was undergoing renovations at that time and they would not have been using the Church.

So on that one piece of evidence alone - its blown the accusers story out of the water.

But then the list of inconsistencies go on and if you read it all it was impossible to Pell to even be alone with the kids because he had a handler the entire time he visits a Church. etc etc etc

Once the last guilty verdict came in the News outlets were very nasty and spiteful with their headlines.

I wonder what they will be once this verdict is overturned.

If its not overturned we have a broken and corrupt justice system.

The lawyers advocating for George Pell’s acquittal yesterday threw up 13 legal obstacles it says a jury should not have overcome in finding him guilty of sexually abusing two choirboys.

Where Pell was, what day he was there, how long he was there, what he was wearing, who he was with and who might have seen him on the day of the crimes are all questions three of Victoria’s most senior judges were asked to consider.

And the answers to those questions, according to Pell’s appeal barrister Bret Walker, meant it was “not possible”, “physically impossible” or “inherently improbable” that the Catholic Cardinal was guilty.

He (Pell) took regular notes as Mr Walker went through the 13 reasons the historic conviction was “unsafe and unsatisfactory”.

High among those was alibi evidence that put Pell at the western door of the cathedral, greeting parishioners, at the time the abuse was said to have been occurring — not in the cathedral sacristy as was alleged.

That distance was “as good as being across the Tasman”, Mr Walker said.

The dates of the offending also threw up doubts, the court was told, with the crown first arguing the abuse occurred on December 15 or December 22, 1996 — but then saying in submissions that it may have been on November 3.

“If it didn’t take place on one of those two dates the crown case fails,” Mr Walker said.

And Pell’s supposed wearing of his full robes while abusing the boys, just minutes after the mass had finished, cast more doubt on the possibility the crimes happened as alleged.

“Incidental to that proposition are matters of physical improbability to the point of impossibility of the simple pulling aside of those robes in order to commit the alleged atrocious acts,” Mr Walker said.

Questions of how the abused boys were able to leave and return from their processional duties undetected, and how Pell would have been able to find himself alone with them on such a busy day in a crowded cathedral, were also raised.

And the appeal submission also took aim at the evidence of the surviving victim, pointing to how his account changed in critical ways when presented with facts which “exposed its impossibility”.

“At best, these repeated alterations revealed him to be uncertain and unreliable about critical particulars of his own narrative,” the appeal submission said.

“At worst, he demonstrated a tendency to deliberately alter crucial elements of his story on numerous occasions when confronted by solid obstacles.”

As a fallback, Pell’s lawyers also put forward two “insurance appeal claims”. One said Judge Peter Kidd should have allowed a video to be shown to the jury during closing arguments illustrating why they said it was impossible Pell was alone in the sacristy when he abused the boys.

Another said Pell had been arraigned — asked to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty — via video, and not in the presence of jurors as required by the law.
