Post by mellie » Wed May 02, 2018 7:52 pm

My dad can sleep for 5 minutes then says he's totally refreshed. Wish I could.

I do it.

Set my phone alarm for 7 minutes, something to cover my eyes, go for it.

I think it must be something we grow into being able to do.

I for the life of me cannot. Lol

I wish I could.

I can't power nap. I wake up feeling worse than I did beforehand.

when im working my split shifts I go back to bed for a

Code: Select all

nana
power nap for an hour or so before I go back to work in the afternoon...

but lets get back to the real power nap...

while driving... have you ever driven to the point that you dozed off for a second? woke up when you hit the dirt on the side of the road?? .. driven 10 kilometres not remembering anything of that 10 kilometres???

let me digress....

I was once on a driving course which was 6 weeks in length... (army) ... it covered everything... on road, off road, in the field, in the city... night driving to the brink of exhaustion ...

anyways... I was driving back to Wodonga on a Friday evening after a hard week and I started to get really really tired...

as I was in a new car ... I thought ... better stop and have a rest... dont want to crash my new car... I set my watch alarm for 30 minutes and went to sleep...

I slept through the alarm and work up two hours later looking at the back of a Truck who had backed in on top of me... scared the crappers out of me...

now...

to the point and the reason they started advertising ands pushing the "POWER NAP"

above is exactly what it was invented for ... people don't want to stop for 2 hours to sleep.... they want to get to the other end of the trip and then sleep...

but talk them in to pulling over for 5 minutes... that can be done... a "Plower nap" and get going again..

but on having their power nap... they wake up an hour or two later.. right??

this proves that that person should not have been on the road... he was ready to fall asleep while driving.. and he just saved his own life...

the power nap is about saving lives... taking people off the road who were about to fall asleep by telling them to pull over for "just 5 minutes"

Exactly Mechanic.

Oh, I really liked the bit where you thought you'd better take a nap not wanting to damage your new car, this opposed to not wanting to become another gruesome road statistic. Lol

Typical guy

Sorry.

yeah I know..

crazy isn't it... better protect my stupid new car... bugger my life..

I always remember that... I've done a lot of touring around australia doing 10s of thousands of kilometres ...

so now I set up my driving day like I would my work day...

get up early around 6am... on the road by around 7am ... stop an hour to an hour and a half down the road for breakfast...

stop for smoke O and fuel

stop for lunch and fuel

afternoon smoke o and fuel if needed

stop driving around 4 to 5 pm....

not driving at night limits my chances of hitting animals on the road or having a head-on with another driver who is falling asleep...

Yes, we do that too. An early start is the key.
I set the alarm for 1:45, we change drivers then or before then. Every 1:45 or more often during the day.
2 hours just seems that little bit too long.
There is a perfectly good driver right beside you, why not swap ?
The passengers has a kip, rests eyes or gives the driver drink and food.

We arrive in good condition and drive safely. It is a good trip.
