Gumtree

Post by Gordon » Sat Apr 14, 2018 12:25 pm

How good is Gumtree.

One of my fav things to get off Gumtree is sports shoes. My daughter and I probably destroy about 5 pairs a year each with the amount of running and sport we do, and she just trashes them playing netball.

Recently I bought her 3 pairs of ASICS Netburners, the top model $185 ones that are never one sale for $60 each. Someone bought them in the USA and doesn't like the fit. One pair was worn twice, the other two only tried on.

That's a bargain Gordon.

I love stringersports.com.au.

The outlet section.

Love how we always get a free pair of socks with our purchase.

U just need to go to a sports shop, try on a pair, take a pic with your phone at sizing label then leave store and jump on stringers and get them for a third of the price

Another good score I her right was a Roxy steamer wetsuit.

No way I'm paying top bucks for a wetsuit she'll grow out of so the only new option is one of the cheap ones that aren't as warm and don't fit well. They're about $100.00

I got her a top of the range Roxy 4:3mm wetsuit, RRP $600 for.... $100, once again, purchased from over seas and didn't fit properly.

I use Gumtree a lot for selling things but I often attract the "what you lowest price" bad English which I always ignore.

The Salvo's and Vinnie's and the like are suffering because of Gumtree. People are selling their unwanted items, instead of donating them.

I'm not into second hand cloths (wrong size is fine), but hit Salvos once a week for baby books and toys for my 1 year old.

I get an armful of stuff for $10. I like the price but also like the recycling aspect.

Unfortunately the Salvos and Vinnies are getting too selective. Many of the Vinnies stores won't take anything electrical even if the box has never been opened and they dump an unbelievable amount of really good things. Couple that with the fact they have volunteers who have no idea about pricing and it's not what it used to be.

They can't tell the difference between glass and crystal and I saw a lamp in one of their stores last year for $20 when I was walking past. I went in and said "You know that lamp is $9 brand new in Bunnings?". She just gaped at me.

Having said that, the Salvos store in Neutral Bay is amazing. Well it was a couple of years ago as I haven't been there for awhile.

some folks would expect warranty with something even purchased from the Salvos.....

living in Canberra we get a lot of Embassy people shopping in the bigger Salvos we had a garage sale once and they turned up always wanting to knock the price down..creeps...even something for $3 they wanted it for $2..then off they go getting into the SUVs...

Lane Cove is the one who wouldn't take electrical items that had never been taken out of their box. I ended up calling the Salvos who came and collected the items and I filled up their truck.
