Re: Whinge thread
After living in Japan for 15 years I had a Vitamin D deficiency that resulted in respiratory infections and all the misery that came with that. When I first was tested for Vitamin D I got a 29ng (American measurements) and later got it up to 110ng, which is really a bit high (have since come down). High potency supplements are available in the USA and not in Europe or Australia so I am able to take the gel caps of 5000iu and 10,000iu. With D3 I take K2 (and a bunch of other supplements. America really is the vitamin and supplement paradise. Used to be I could mail supplements from America to the EU but they have gotten incredibly strict and send it back. Australia isn't quite so strict but lots of what is freely available on amazon.com isn't available to Australians.
Also, be sure you are taking D3 and not D2. For some reason, physicians in the USA and Australia prescribe D2 which is largely ineffective ... D3 gel caps and not tablets are the way to go - and take it with Vitamin K.

there is no reason to get Vitamin D3 prescribed by a physician - it's dirt cheap OTC.cods wrote:I was told by a chemist the generic vit D is just as good and a lot cheaper.

The ones I posted a picture of are available at Woollies for $26 ... that's for 250 capsules! You are being ripped off if you paid $13 for 30 capsules.cods wrote:I dont know if we have D2 or D3 its just Vit D...

I buy most of my vitamins online. Swisse Vitamin D 400 capsules $16.49.
Unless Chemist Warehouse is having a sale it is far far cheaper to buy them online. I usually use this site and they arrive within a couple of days. I can recommend the site as I have used them quite a lot.

Re: Whinge thread
A good idea to buy vitamins online, much cheaper than Woollies and the Chemist is even more expensive than Woollies. I don't take a lot of vitamins, just Swisse Vitamin D and Blackmore's Mega B Complex, which I take haphazardly, both on the advice of my GP. I also have prescription pills for BP and Cholesterol, and recently Thyroxine ... some days I deliberately miss them too.Black Orchid wrote:I buy most of my vitamins online. I don't buy many either but, when I do, that's where I tend to get them. I only started taking a multi vitamin lately and I take Cranberry and I intermittently take Probiotics.
