absolutely I never suggested amerika has a monopoly....

however they did come up with the serial killer tag....

Britain I believe has some of the worst... more than evil....

however those countries and ours do not arm everyone to the back teeth and tell everyone guns are the answer to crime...

tex tells us he is happy with his kids passing through armed policed gates to school...

they are there to protect the kids against humans not wild animals...and its every day normal...

the very last place you should have GUNS is schools...yet it makes sense to the yanks...

why dont we have armed cops at our schools..........anyone know?.

I'm a pro gun supporter. I think everybody has a right to defend themselves by any means possible. Especially if you live in a high crime area.

It isn't the gun itself but the person behind the gun. Are we to outlaw everything that can potentially kill somebody?

Why isnt cigarettes and alcohol banned here? Alcohol in particular is not only bad for your health but can bring out the worst in people with no self control often leading to injuries and death.

Didn't ISIS fighters behead their victims with butter knives? Lets outlaw that too.

Lets outlaw vehicles too. They can be used to run people over as we saw in Melbourne.

We cant outlaw any of that because of the governments dependency on the tax it brings in..

I know. But how much money is wasted on warning ads? Anti smoking campaigns, anti binge drink campaigns etc? Pack of hypocrites. Its alright when it suits them.

I recently gave up smoking cause I was sick of the tax hikes. Got better things to spend my money on then line the pockets of those filthy grubs.

I feel the breakdown of the family unit has gradually changed the socio economic conditions under which many
of us live.
I see a total lack of respect, lack of self discipline/self control... lack of parenting ability..
lack of understanding..lack of purpose...and so on...
The young of today have grown up with an immediate demand for materialistic possessions, and a
rebellious attitude if they dont get what they want...tattoos, trips to Bali, having a good time all take the place
of saving and preparing for the future...immaturity and a lack of intelligence takes over...
In other words, the young are still immature....they are 24, going on 14....look ..take a photo of what Im eating so I can post it on facebook and get heaps of "likes"...arent I important...so terribly insecure........
Parents of today have to check with the internet to ascertain if they should administer any type of
discipline...if any...a check of the internet has to occur to even ascertain how many hours a five year old
is permitted to use his/her hand held video game...because they cant parent...they cant make a disciplinary decision...
There is no discipline in schools, and no discipline in the home...encouraged by the left....dont smack your kids...its assault...
Teenage behaviour is passed off as "age appropriate"...parents are in denial of any parental errors...
The young have social media as a form of "reinforcement" which leads to immediate strength and rebellion...
At the end of the day, parents are secretly glad when their children move out.
If they dont move out due to financial constraints, they live with their parents well into their 20s.
Therefore their ability to "grow up" is limited as they are not self reliant.
And of course, if both parents have to work to pay the bills, there is less time to parent, or in fact, learn how to parent.
And of course again, there is the immediate availability of immense credit for those who want so much so quickly.
Society is rapidly going down the gurgler and nothing is getting any better...debt stress makes it worse...
But our politicians tell us theyre going to "get on with the job" and praise themselves for serving the
people so well....even Abbott now receives more money as a retired politician than when he was "working"
We vote for politicians..but they are not trusted..trust is non existent....
In the meantime, young Australians still get pissed or stoned on their drugs, old Australians still abuse their
partners for petty reasons....
And we turn on the telly and see that we are being dumbed down...that is except the little children that are
filmed protesting and crying about climate change...wound up by their parents and teachers...
I watch primary school kids laughing and playing in a school nearby as I walk to the shops.....
They seem happy as they play....but then play ends......
And I feel sorry for them....
But I digress....throw all the money at domestic violence...build more half way houses...but dont
worry about discovering the real reason....its under our noses...
Its US......

I agree with you totally and I will never understand why people continually try to compare us to the US.

Apart from the fact that they have over 300 million more people than we do, we have NEVER had to fight for our independence. If we had fought bloodily and bitterly for our independence Howard would NEVER have been able to remove our guns.

Different history and a different (gun) culture because of this. Why is this so hard to understand?

No legal firearms for the ordinary people here but the criminals use their guns daily.

IMO A GUN HAS ONLY ONE PURPOSE

TO BLOW A HOLE IN SOMETHING...

IF YOU CAN TELL ME OTHERWISE PLEASE DO...

a knife a car has a duel purpose

alcohol for what its worth rarely kills anyone...it still takes HUMAN to do that...

as for smoking... well to a certain extent they are banned in this country.....,.

out of sight out of mind.... and I hear its working.....

I too smoked for many years not since the 80s though....its a shocking habit

smokers usually kill themselves.. not others

and I have never heard of it killing IN MASS..

again if you can tell me otherwise please do....

And again for the gun to have any effect there has to be a person behind it to pull the trigger. Otherwise it just sits there and looks pretty.

Guns are made to kill things, yeah. In a more "civilized" society they are used to hunt in the bush for fun. I have a couple of mates who do it.

Recently the shooting club here held a fox hunt. To me, the dreaded evil gun was used in a positive manner, helping to eradicate a known pest.

It's a complicated debate I know.
