I agree there's nothing of interest in Sparta but you also don't want people only dwelling in there and ignoring the rest of the board so a cooling off period would be ok.

No I don't think so as you cant stop them making petitions without amending the Constitution.
Three months isn't long enough 12 months good behaviour before being able to petition .
Sparta.... three months is probably OK as there is SFA of interest in there anyway.
Hi Red,
at the same time it's mean to assume that the intention of any new member is malicious.
I would like to start out on good terms - with everyone given a new clean slate.
We are in a unique position in that I am open to all ideas and if
anything is too controversial then I'm also open to voting on it.
This is the time when PA can be remade in the image of what people want.
If people come here with bad intentions and start to immediately cause trouble
then they will receive longer and longer bans.
It's that simple really.
Anyone who joins up with the intention of starting interesting new threads
and making thoughtful, witty or funny replies to other peoples' posts will be most welcome.

Ah well your the man so do what you want to do.
Anyway I still think this amendment to the Constitution is well overdue, particularly as the magic number drops due to low voting!

The only other idea could be specifying that the magic number cant go any lower than perhaps 6.
Just a thought!

I think it's a bad idea. It defeats the purpose of petitions as a way of getting around a bad moderator. All they have to do is rotate the bans on people who do not like them.

Re: Proposed Amendment to the PA Constitution
So you dont like either option as a means of making new members behave for a period say 12 months?
Re: Proposed Amendment to the PA Constitution
Exactly. I was made very aware by YOU, freediver, when I was EL....that your Constitution was written and then amended by you to put strict limits on the capacity of an EL (me at the time) to thwart the wishes of Members.
The magic number is four...and that it is so low is not the fault of the Constitution....it is the direct result of this place being allowed to lower itself to comatose level.
Cup Cake.....if you want to change the Constitution....just start a Petition.....get four signatories.....(I predict you will not) and you will have triggered a Referendum....one that will not succeed (I predict.)
Stop trying to back door it by putting indirect pressure on Bobby to cut the corners for you.

Re: Proposed Amendment to the PA Constitution
I don't see this as a petition but rather a discussion thread,
I don't agree with the change either. The magic number being low only makes it an issue for now.
We have never managed to agree on a change to the constitution in the past. There have been many attempts.
So it has stood the test of time.

Re: Proposed Amendment to the PA Constitution
Sparta was created to have a place for members to have their fights so not to scare off guests and those that just view if they stumble on this place.Black Orchid wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 3:09 pmI agree there's nothing of interest in Sparta but you also don't want people only dwelling in there and ignoring the rest of the board so a cooling off period would be ok.
So having only some members not having access defeats it's purpose as a members only area for members only interactions.

Since blow ins/socks can vote in elections your amendment is pointless.
