I plan to celebrate "CIVILIZATION DAY"

When civilized people came to this country and, after 40000 years of nothing, made it into a true civilization.

In just 200 years we have taken a primitive country into an advanced society in which people can live and travel at will.

And, like it or not, Australia was not a wonderful and bountiful world to abbos.
They had a brutal and short existence before white man.
They burnt the land rather than farm it
They were pre-stone age and had no medicine.

Unlike other primitive civilization, like the American Indians.
The Australian aboriginal had no concept of democratic structure, no chiefs.
They did not build shelter other than lean toos to keep the rain off
Even clothing was rare, and generally in the cooler climates
Many or most groups had no idea of how to make fire
Embers were carried from place to place wrapped in bark.

Even the simple tool by lashing a stone to a stick was beyond them and spears were simply sharpened sticks.

Yep
Civilization day brought many wonderful things to Australia.

And there are more abbos now than at any other time.

I'd keep Australia Day as the 26th, plus I'd add an extra one, make it a 4 day weekend and call it Savage Freedom Week.

Brian, was it inevitable that Australia would be colonised by someone eventually?

Imagine Australia was a big share house and someone said “hey let’s have a big party this Saturday.” But you say “Can we not do it Saturday, that’s the date my dad died.”

Now good house mates would say “sure, we’ll have the party another time. We want to make sure everyone has a good time.”

Except in this case your house mates moved in without permission, don’t pay rent and their dad killed your dad. Which is why they are staying in your dad’s room.

Let’s celebrate Australia Day on the same date we celebrated the very first Australia Day. July 30



Better yet we can still keep Jan 26 as an important public holiday.

The Rum Rebellion of Jan 26 1808 marks the first and only military coup in Australian history. We get to spend the day drinking rum and sticking it to authority. What could be more Australian than that?
