I love urban container gardens Sprint.

My courtyard is as urban as it gets, complete with bluestone / cobble stone pavers.

Not heritage. Just trying to be.

Not fun walking across them in high heels though

:) ... in the dark bringing washing in. OUCH!!

I am going to buy a few more whiskey barrels.

I love them.

I'm just going to try small container vegetables come spring. Cherry toms, salad mix, Lebanese cucumbers, chillies and capsicum. Perhaps if I get ambitious, small eggplant and zucchini, but will pick them when tender.

All trial and error for me, my container planters have handles in case we need to relocate them, for whatever reason, heavy frost etc.

Capsicums dont like containers, if they get water stress they get blossom end rot,, pots and water stress go together.
Cherry toms are as tough as old boots, they still dont like water stress though.
A zucchini is a large plant,, difficult in pots.
Green beans are ok in pots ,, dont let them dry out though.
Chillis are ok in pots

Ok, then I'll prescribe to my Eden seeds catalogue and produce the most unusual heirloom cherry toms and chillies I can.

Hey, at least they're colourful and green.

Thanks Mike.

Can only try.

I bought some Echinacea seeds from ebay, customs sent me a letter and said they had to destroy them.

I reckon Yates and Australian customs official's have an arrangement.

Gonna check out a local nursery a little later on.

I'm obsessed with daisies, especially African, and succulents.

Really pleased with our little garden. Was a rank patch of dirt with nothing in it when we arrived, all bar a common boring orange geranium which is still there, but I have trimmed right back.

Love our herb container gardens out the back, but my Thai basil isn't looking too good, perhaps it's getting too cold here now.

Too messy, and what about insects and spiders, fungus etc?

I'll stick with treated whiskey barrels Sprint.

But thanks.

Looks like higher maintenance than I'd like, sweeping up pieces of straw all the time.

Rats and mice would have a filed day in it.
