At the very lowest speed you are bound to get higher though. It would be hard to get less.
I pay for 100 Mbps but don't get that. I pay $10 more per month and I also get phone with unlimited local calls, unlimited calls to mobiles, unlimited national calls and 100 overseas minutes per month.
I am happy with what I get. It is better than ADSL2+ which barely got 6 Mbps and cost the same. There is only me here so I don't know what would happen if there was several computers connected and everyone watching a movie or something. I can watch Foxtel quite happily on the computer.
I get unlimited local calls and 15 cent interstate calls. I don't call anyone overseas so no idea about that. My mobile phone is with a different carrier and I put 20 bucks in every so often as I only use it to text not as a phone.
I think people about to sign up for the NBN should ask around and not to expect 100 Mbps when it states that you are lucky to get about 75 Mbps for that price. Do you really
need 100 Mbps? If you have $100 a month to pay for that... good luck.

Don't know why anyone would pay $100 per month when there is so much cheaper out there.

Like I said. You get what you pay for. I pay $59.99. I get 11.94 Mbps. If you want 100 Mbps, you pay for it but don't get that speed.

I pay $69.99 for all I said above. I am just saying there is more than one ISP out there.

I had NBN installed last March. Set it up myself. Easy. However, I am still getting mail from NBN Co advising me that we have NBN in my street and to "get it now", they even mention the address. Surely they KNOW that I already have "signed up"?
How did you do that ?
Sprint.
I kept my current ISP, who sent me an email saying that NBN Co would be in my Street on such and such a day. I was advised that I might be "offline" for a while as they set it up. I saw the NBN truck across the Street so knew "they" were here. LOL
My ISP had sent me the Modem .... and I had to set that up myself .... that's easy.
If you are getting FTTN you set it up via a
modem, sent to you by the ISP you are signed up to, with instructions. I gather that FTTP is where they need to enter your premises to install the "box".
Oh, and you get the "speed" you pay for! IF you want the fastest it will cost you $100 .... if you are happy to just have good connections and don't download much, get the cheapest $60 ... phone included.
I figured out that I
was paying $40 for the ISP plus $30 for the landline, so when I signed up for NBN with the same ISP I got the cheapest ($60) so I saved 10 bucks .... I can still watch movies online but don't play online games and there is only me here so no "drain" on connections.
NBN in my experience has been very stable.
Thanks.
We have FTTN in this area (I think).
The ISP sent me out a new modem a while ago, have not opened it yet.
So did you 'plug' the new modem in the phone port, power it up and it did all the magic itself?
cheaper sounds good to me.
I can't type very fast anyways.

Setting up the new Modem was easy. All you do is unplug the connections from
behind your old Modem and re-plug them into the new one (don't touch the connections on the computer tower) .... then you have to run the "set up" thingie, which will show up on the computer screen. Your ISP will have sent you an email with instructions and a password for the phone connection ... if I remember correctly. The phone connection is added to the modem ... so the phone needs to be next to your computer.
Hope that makes sense.
