A FAIRLIGHT woman has been duped out of more than $75,000 in an international online dating scam.
Police said the victim, 52, was conned after communicating with a man through the OK Cupid internet site.
The man claimed his engineering project in South Africa had gone bust and convinced the woman to send him $40,000.
She also sent him money for a plane ticket to Australia but he never turned up.
He then contacted the women through the mobile phone App, Hang Out, saying he was critically sick and needed cash. The victim again transferred money.
The woman then told the man she thought he was a fake but he threatened to harm himself. She then transferred another $35,000 before she contacted police.
this is copybook scamming.....what in the world will it take to make people wake up to themselves...
the money is GONE what good does it do to report it??????....
