Mongols also moved great amount of sheep with them to feed men. The strategy allowed them to move very fast over big distance and to appear suddenly before enemy have chance to prepare defenses. The surprise was major key of their success as long as they moved fast but this type of army required huge amount of forage for animals. So if Mongols were forced to stay in a place too long it was turning against them like it happened during the Great Stand on the Ugra River in 1480 during confrontation between the forces of Akhmat Khan of the Great Horde, and Grand Prince Ivan III of the Grand Duchy of Moscow. The Tatar horses, and the sheep they drove with them for food, gradually consumed the local fodder and had to leave in a hurry.

While the pool for competition jousters was relatively tiny, Darrell estimated there were about 10,000 medieval re-enactors around Australia.
