Shield with steel casing and a pistol barrel mounted in the center. England, 1525

The base of the shield is wooden, on the front side 12 steel trapezoidal plates are riveted, radically diverging from the central round plate. In one of them there is a lattice window. A pistol barrel is mounted in the center of the shield. Judging by the photo, the charge was ignited by a fuse.
The back of the shield is covered with woolen fabric.
The diameter of the shield is 435 mm, weight 4819 grams, barrel caliber is about 14 mm.
From the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, inv. 14.25.745
