Dead tree media

I know that for some time the Age (not sure re smh) has been issuing free copies and that the Australian in delis and so on largely remains unsold but I guess other papers are feeling the pinch.

Yesterday in the Central Market Arcade I bought a gardening magazine. The lady serving me then said that I could have an Advertiser for free. I told her that I would use it as a weed mat in the garden and the lady said that many other patrons had expressed similar sentiments.

Now, the Advertiser has always been an execrable rag, 100% Liberal bias but lately it has been getting worse.

How does Murdoch expect to keep selling papers when he fills them with lies and rightwing hacks? All this hysteria against the "carbon tax" and yet the rallies organised by 2GB, the silly Convoy of No Confidence attract hundreds. Not thousands or tens of thousands but hundreds! So people stop buying newspapers. I don't know how the sales of electronic versions are going but judging by Fairfax not enough to make a difference.

I would love a professional newspaper filled with accurate reports and clear, incisive analysis. If that had a slight rightwing bias that wouldn't matter, but not ramming nothing but bias down our throats thanks!

Fuck Murdoch!
