You cannot credibly assert that because the MLA had knowledge of some abuse, the buggers who grew the cows being exported to Indonesia also knew. This decision to suspend had to be made....no other choice, but there will be many Aussies hurt by it. They sought be compensated.

You have a view on this Boxy? I don't knwo what to think. I saw yesterday in the paper that teh Indonesian government is goign to sort things now so maybe the blanket ban to Indonesia was called for. I have also seen it is supported by many in the industry because they don't want their animals treated like shown on the 4 corners show.

If you believe the Indo govt will "do something" to fix this you can call me and I will sell you the harbour bridge. It is going cheap.

The issue of compensation is not difficult, it is just not palletable for this govt. They need to compensate the people affected by paying them what they would have earned had the ban not been put in place! The fact there was no consultation with the industry and there was no opportunity for those affected to plan for this leaves them in a horrible position. This will ruin many small businesses in Northwest wa, the nt and qld. I dont like the fact that these animals were treated the way they were. I also think this could have been handled better by the govt, not just a knee jerk response to the squeaky wheels who would prefer no animals were killed at all. Now I am off to visit the local PETA office wearing my fur coat and Leather hat. Have a nice day!!!!

You are ridiculous!

The industry has known about all this for years. They pay a levy, the levy was spent making people here believe everything was well in Indo for the cattle. They better start spending the levy on major reforms of those Indo abattoirs.

They deserve and will get no compensation!

They have known that the govt was just going to pull their livlyhood from them without warning! I think not. They deserve and should get full compensation. Many will loose their houses and businesses because of this. How would you react if for some reason the govt just decided you could not do your job, operate your business, left you with no viable income and then said "by the way fuck you no compensation" I bet you would moan like a stuck pig! This is a travesty on many fronts but it saddens me when people feel more compasion for a cow than a human. I dont want to see any animal tortured, however I would rather that then seeing people being sent to the wall. The govt could have jus banned exports to the abbs doing the wrong thing. They however bowed to the bleeding heart leftys who would rather hurt a human than a cow. Absolutley riduculous.
