Swine flu cases..hits 300
The Federal Government has had to send stockpiles of face masks to Victoria.
Govt expecting no let-up in swine flu cases, over 300 people have been diagnosed with swine flu in Australia, health authorities have confirmed.
The number of swine flu cases diagnosed in Victoria has risen to 212 - making up more than two thirds of the national total.
Australians in all states and territories are now affected with the virus, with Queensland reporting 20 cases, New South Wales 57, South Australia seven, the ACT four and Tasmania, Western Australia, and the Northern Territory have one case each.
The latest cases are those of 39 people aged from five to 18 in Melbourne and two children and an adult at Cairns, in Queensland's north.
Federal Health Minister Nicola Roxon says the measures to contain the spread of swine flu will be stepped up if the rate of spread continues."

So far we have not seen panic in the community which may just mean the Nicola Roxon and her team have done a very good job of allaying public fears thus far.
At this rate, in spite of any measure they have planned for further containment, it will spread very fast. Hope the stockpiles are healthy as we have been repeatedly assured and the vaccine is being fast tracked..

It has killed hardly anybody, maybe we should just let it run its course?

It's no plague, hence the lack of panic in the community (as opposed to the media).

Too bad Bush is not President anymore or the old PA Looooonatic Left crowd would be blaming him for biological weapons gone mad.
Still, ele might get around to it.
The best lunatic Left argument I ever heard on PA was when Kanki said she was proud to be on the Left but offended people classified her as Left.
Doublespeak at it's best.

Doubt it, tho some still think AIDS was a CIA plot
Again, I emphasize that with any epidemic, rigorous handwashing esp before eating or preparing food is the main line of defence. One of the memories of my childhood back in Holland were constant warnings on the radio about washing hands--this was the polio epidemic of the early 1950s

Interesting that the gov are sending face masks to Victoria, my sister works for an airline out of Sydney airport and she along with the staff at Qantas have been told not to worry about face masks as they do nothing to stop the spread of the virus.Auzgurl wrote:The Federal Government has had to send stockpiles of face masks to Victoria.

Maybe its the placebo effect for the people wanting to wear the masks.

I think it is - and the placebo effect is so strong, it'll probably work.

The better I get to know people, the more I find myself loving dogs.
Re: Swine flu cases..hits 300
You would have to wonder why Australia has more cases than anywhere else in the world. Here we are an island - yet Europe and the US with so many more people and open borders have so few cases. It's all a bit suspect - especially as it originated in Mexico and strangely enough flew straight over here.
Re: Swine flu cases..hits 300
Cause it's flu season Mantra. The flu prefers cooler weather.
Re: Swine flu cases..hits 300
Sapho is correct, they did say we would be hit first. Plenty of people have come here from holidays in Mexico & the US.
