Hanson still a chance for Upper House seat

Post by mellie » Sat Apr 02, 2011 5:32 pm

Pauline Hanson continues to have a real chance of gaining a seat in the New South Wales Upper House.

ABC election analyst Antony Green says Ms Hanson is ahead in the count for the final Legislative Council seat.

But he says in the coming days many inner-city postal votes will be counted and her vote may fall.

He says at this stage if Labor and Greens preferences do not flow to each other, Ms Hanson will win.

"She's polled well enough to be ahead of an evenly divided vote between the sixth Labor candidate and the third Green candidate," he said.

"It's just the way the system cuts up at the end of the count that whoever's leftover with a large remainder can get elected."

The make-up of the Legislative Council will be declared on April 12.

It will certainly be entertaining!! While I think her to ignorent and extremist in some of her views, it is only fair that red necks are reprisented. I mean it seems ok to the population that the bleeding heart greens, hairy legged banner waivers etc from the left have a voice, why not the toothless trailer park inhabitants. I am all for balance!

What influence on NSW Politics does she have, occupying one seat in the NSW Senate?

Yes it would be good for NSW, and it would be one less seat for the ALP & Greens.

The Greens occupy one seat (of 150) in the Federal House of Reps, and the Greens run the country.

And it will stop her running in any other random elections around the country... so it probably wouldn't be all bad :D
