From ABC website:
Auditor-General Ian McPhee has examined the process for approving government advertising campaigns under the Howard government, including the $49 million spent on promoting WorkChoices, $65 million spent on changes to WorkChoices, and $18 million on private health insurance.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009 ... ion=justin
So MORE taxpayers money was spent on the changes to WorstChoices than on the original scheme! Sheepy swore hand on heart that no spending on WC was done in 2007 (tho I remembered seeing it.)
So I ask here the question I asked Sheepy a while ago:
Was Howard's taxpayer funded Advertising in 2007, esp the WC, a desperate attempt to reverse the tide and win the election? Unlikely since studies showed that people were sick of the advertising and the ads just turned people off the Fibs. Or was it a way to pay back his media mates (with taxpayers money, natch, not his own) for their support over the 11 years of his maladministration?
{edit: the above question is not my own, read it somewhere, but think it is a bloody good question!}

The media (overall) didn't overly helpful to Howard over his term as PM. He knew how to work them better than the woeful attempts of the opposition at the time, but as a whole, they did him no favours.

Unlike the much US media, which gives Obama, free propaganda and then asks the White House for jobs.
Howard was selling work choices with are tax money, no doubt about it, but the Australian voter punished him, to my mind he lost the election mostly on that issue.
It was an ideology too far.

It was tough over a period of years watching one hopeless opposition leader after another just stuff it up. Simon Crean ffs and Latham..I almost lost hope.
Yes Workchoices, among other things, killed of the Libs . Rudd only had to capitalise on that. He did.
Howard was gone. Rudd won the election convincingly.
John Howard, you are the weakest link, its time to go. He was and he did.

Rudd did more than that, he avoided the wedges sheepy bleats Howard didn't use.
Rudd agreed with everything where that wouldn't lose him votes
Rudd disagreed where agreeing would cost him votes
Personally I think Rudd would have won even without WC/YRAW tho they did help
Rodent was getting a bit senile, that helped too!
Anybody notice Rodent was getting botox shots in the campaign?

Thats so funny monk..but I think they must have slipped and jabbed him in the legs..they kept giving way on him. His election campaign was marred by some embarrassing blunders and these were some of them.
He never was very good on his feet tho'..I remember once he was standing besides G.W. Bush at the Whitehouse and fell straight from camera shot into a bush.Bush had to help him up...
The last campaign was not good for Howard..the debate with Rudd and the worm ..he lost it "little old man style"- blinking and pointing at Rudd in frustration .. he stayed one term too long.
I'm off to watch a movie..nite.

lol, I love the way you paint him being a populist vote whore as a positive attribute.
