Bendan Nelson walks

"THE former Opposition leader Brendan Nelson has delivered the Liberal Party its second shock in one day by announcing he would quit politics at the next federal election.

Only hours after Julie Bishop stepped down as shadow treasurer, Dr Nelson told a meeting in his safe North Shore seat of Bradfield that it was time the party renewed itself.

Dr Nelson was a minister in the Howard Government, holding the education and defence portfolios. He beat Malcolm Turnbull to become Opposition leader after the Coalition's 2007 election defeat."

Like Julie, Horatio was never great shakes as a Minister.

He is right, they do need to renew themselves but are not doing so, e.g. the designer of WorstChoices, Jamie whatisname being imposed on the Lieberal party in Mayo--and nearly costing them the seat! Some other rightwing extremist will be jammed into Horatio's seat, mark my words and don't you worry about that!

The amusing part being that he told the media, then called Turnbull

Would have been even better if he had told the media and didn't tell Turnbull :)

If Labor finds a great candidate, eminently winnable!

Ok last TPP vote still under 40% at last election, but it is rising quite fast, two more years of Rudd as PM and good govt, the loss of brendan's personal vote etc. And the star candidate--Steve Waugh???

The Lieberals never learn do they?
THE list of names being bandied around to replace Brendan Nelson in the blue ribbon Liberal seat of Bradfield reads like a John Howard cheer-squad.

Among those being talked about in Liberal circles yesterday as contenders were conservative columnist Janet Albrechtsen, former Howard staffer Arthur Sinodinos and Howard confidant Tom Switzer.

Howard was one of the reasons the Fibs lost the election!

Poor old, set upon, Janet Albrechtsen? She certainly is more of a politician than a journo
