Insulation disaster...govt refuses to reveal information

Post by IQSRLOW » Fri Jun 18, 2010 8:11 pm

Crikey! Some morons still think this was a good idea

The Federal Government is under pressure to release the results of 61,000 safety inspections of homes insulated under the now scrapped rebate scheme.

It has previously announced that an initial 15,000 inspections found 8 per cent of roofs were a fire risk.

But the Government is refusing to release more results, saying the checks are now targeted and not representative of the level of risk.

Opposition environment spokesman Greg Hunt says that is no excuse not to release the results.

"A million homeowners deserve to know whether they are at risk, deserve to know whether they're roof is potentially dangerous and deserve to know whether their roof is potentially dodgy," he said.

"This is information which should be in the public domain. There is always an excuse from this Government as to why they are hiding the figures."

Why would you want to advertise just how fucking hopelessly incompetent our small business operators are? They need their hand held every step of the way by bureaucrats... without it they set houses alight, and kill their workers

Get off the grass Monkeyboy

You can't possibly deflect a failure instigated by the administration onto people that this administration has encouraged. Perhaps you need a job in the real world so you can figure out how life works?

You and Kev sure don't seem to have any idea

My job can't get any more "real world", thanks all the same, investment leach.

The govt tried to "encourage" entrepreneurs to go out and provide a worthwhile service, that they (the govt) would pay for. And what service did these entrepreneurs provide? Total, and utter incompetence. They obviously need harsher rules, and more oversight, if they are to be trusted to deliver what they've been paid (paid very well) for.

If this govt new anything at all it would surprise me. But it doesn't so it won't and even a monkey like you can see that "encouragement" without "management" is a disaster.

Sorry to burst your little Labor love in bubble, but they are responsible. You cannot start a program, fail to manage it and then say "oh those rotten insulation guys- they took advantage of the poor Labor minister" bew fucking hew

Time to grow some sack and admit your failings boxy.

You stupid fuck

Rudd takes responsibility for axed insulation scheme

KEVIN RUDD: Well, as far as responsibility for any government program, I as Prime Minister of the country, am responsible for the good news and the bad news, the implementation of programs effectively, the implementations of programs which have problems. As Prime Minister of the country I take full responsibility to that which goes well and that which doesn't go so well.

1.1m homes insulated, half the death rate of installers, fraction of the fire, the country didn't go into recession. What was so bad about the program again?

Rudd admits insulation scheme was bad

Kevin Rudd has admitted the federal government's botched home insulation program was not well implemented but says he was not advised to stop it earlier.

It was revealed on Thursday the prime minister was warned in letters from then environment minister Peter Garrett of unacceptably high safety risks in the scheme before three installers died in accidents linked to the program.

Despite the warning, the scheme continued and a further person died before the $2.45 billion scheme was axed.

Labor struggles to clean up...their clean up.

What a complete fuckup!
Some idiots STILL try and spruik this was a good scheme. Are they insane?
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2010 ... ion=justin
Insulation installers and industry groups are worried that the Government's safety inspections are being carried out by people who are not properly trained.

The Federal Government is currently working through 200,000 inspections of roofs where insulation was installed under its free program that was axed over safety and fraud concerns.

It has completed roughly half of the 50,000 inspections it will conduct of homes with foil insulation.

National Electrical Contractors Association CEO James Tinslay says tight restrictions are now in place to make sure there is not a repeat of the workplace deaths that happened under the original free program.

"NECA has been working closely with the department to develop safe work procedures to ensure the safety of both workers and the householders," he said.

"It could be that there might be a couple of months added to that. NECA wouldn't see that as a major issue because we know the program will be carried out correctly and we're very happy with the procedures that have been put in place."

But he is not quite as confident about the inspections for bulk insulation. Mr Tinslay says his organisation has reported a number of inspectors for what appeared to be sloppy work.
Oh dear....how will the insane spin this?
