California steps back from gay marriages

Post by boxy » Sun Nov 09, 2008 8:29 pm

After the Mormon church spent millions on an advertising campaign, Californians have approved a constitutional amendment, overturning a Supreme Court ruling that recognised same sex marriages.

One step forward, two steps back :?

This seems to be based on a belief that the church 'owns' the term marriage. Many commentators think they would have won their rights if they had called it a civil union, but because they demanded complete recognition of their equality they were shut down. Some voters would have been willing to give them equal rights, but wanted the semantics to still reflect their superiority.

Still, it is going to happen eventually, even in America.

BTW, I don't think it was a constitutional amendment. It was a vote on state law in a few different states.

It's an amendment to the state's constitution.

Love Courtney Loves little ditz up, voting for the amendment, when she was really for gay rights... and then she tries to make out she actually voted No, and was only highlighting the confusing wording. Yeah right, sue me, but she just isn't subtle enough to make that believable :D

Get off the drugs already, Courts! :?
