Australia's work force is now dramatically different from that of 40 years ago.
Rise of casual and insecure work weighs on wages

The outlook for wages was dealt another blow on Wednesday, with ABS figures revealing pay packets increased just 0.5 per cent over the three months to December 2019.
The meagre rise was in line with market expectations and means annual wages growth came in at 2.2 per cent – well below the historical average of 3-4 per cent.
Economists attributed the weak figures to the sizeable number of Australians who would like to work more hours than they are.
These casual and insecure workers account for 8.3 per cent of the workforce and are referred to as “underemployed”.
Understandably, many do not feel as though they are in the position to ask for a pay rise when they need more hours.
And so the nation’s high level of underemployment goes a long way towards explaining why wages are stuck in the doldrums despite a relatively low unemployment rate of 5.1 per cent.

Re: Why wages are not rising much
This is one of the reasons why Holden packed it in...
Workers for Holden are paid high wages to do what they do.
What does the grubberment do....they encourage overseas manufacturers to import
cheaper cars...wave the tariffs or at least reduce them...and the overseas vehicles
will always be cheaper as the manufacturers pay their workers the equivalent of a bowl
of rice a day....a classic example of our grubberment pandering to overseas countries...
Go to any shop and buy any Australian product, and compare it to an overseas
equivalent...the overseas product will always be cheaper....
Meanwhile, wage growth stagnates in Australia in every industry because businesses
are going broke due to their overheads.....
If the price of everything keeps going up, wages will not go up...businesses will
simply go broke quicker if the wages go up....
If the grubberment became "competent" and suspended the compulsory superannuation
levy, which is causing wages to stagnate, then maybe businesses may be able to give people
more hours....and don't start me on the GST, the most offensive tax ever created....
Every problem in Australia can be traced back to one thing...incompetent grubberments
past and present on state and federal levels....
This is why Ive been suggesting for some time that the entire planet is about to experience
an economic global reset...and its not going to be pretty....

Global economics in general, needs an overhaul imo. It's just a load of bullshit that allows those at the top to make money out of thin air at the expense of the minions below them who keep the wheels greased.billy the kid wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 10:45 amThis is why Ive been suggesting for some time that the entire planet is about to experience
