I had a bloke in the Cab today, picked him up from the very heart of Mooloolaba to take him to the Airport. He was flying direct to Sydney. We get chatting. He is about 30-35, average bloke. Says he has been on the Sunshine Coast for about five months having left Sydney. Loves it here, he says. "Do you rent or own that Unit?" I proffer. "Yeah, just rent," he says.

"Do you mind telling me what the rent is there?"

"No worries.....$1,000.00 per week, I have the penthouse."

This is when I go into 'whatthefuck' mode, and dally around the conversation, and then take him seamlessly back to, "Andrew, what is your job?"

"Stockbroker."

"Bad news today about Dubai, what?"

I wish I had not asked..........but the bottom line according to Andrew was that the CBA has acknowledged a Five Billion Dollar exposure to Dubai, and if Dubai reneged, that would be the end of any profit for the CBA this term.

"I hope nobody panics," he said.

Interesting stuff. I hadn't read anywhere that the Commonwealth bank had exposure. Infact I had read that Australian banks only had minimal exposure. So I wonder if your passenger is right. Have seen Leighton mentioned before in connection with this though.

I wouldn't have been looking to Dubai to be the caus eof th enext financial melt down either- that surprises me.
