Ipswich city council dissolved

Post by sprintcyclist » Sun Aug 26, 2018 4:36 pm

..... Legislation to dissolve Ipswich City Council is being rushed through Queensland Parliament on Tuesday in an emergency motion.

The 10 councillors at the Ipswich council will have days to clear out their desks.

Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe tabled the bill just after 11.15am, then asked the bill be debated in full on Tuesday, because of the “extraordinary circumstances” in which 15 people face serious criminal charges.

“In my capacity as Local Government Minister I have been assailed by emails, letters, documents and reports of investigations into the operation of the Ipswich City Council,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“There have been many findings, some of them deeply disturbing,” he said.
Member for Bundamba Jo-Ann Miller – who has over a period of time raised many allegations of concern at Ipswich City Council - was not in the house to hear Mr Hinchliffe table the legislation.

“It is our collective responsibility to restore good government, good local government to the community of Ipswich and in doing that we will have delivered certainty,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

Fifteen people, including seven current or former councillors or council employees, face 86 charges.

Mr Hinchliffe has introduced three changes to the draft bill to dissolve the council.

Ipswich City Council will cover the costs of the administrator and the panel of experts who will run the council until the outcome of the next elections in March 2020, Mr Hinchliffe told the house.

Ipswich councillors would be allowed to stand as candidates at any council election in March 2020, which the draft bill had prohibited.

The administrator and the new interim management committee would be covered by civil liability.

Opposition local government spokeswoman Ann Leahy said it was a “sad day for local government in Queensland”.

She said the issue should have been dealt with in May when the first "show cause" motion was put to the council.

However, the councillors sought Supreme Court action after receiving a second "show cause" motion.

Mr Hinchliffe received the support of the house to have the bill read for the final time by 5.55pm.

“This needs to be dealt with quickly,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“We need to have the administrator in place quickly.”

Earlier during Question Time, Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington and her deputy Tim Mander asked Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk if the problems at Ipswich could have been resolved if she acted when Ms Miller first raised concerns about Ipswich City Council.

Ms Palaszczuk said Ms Miller originally approached the Crime and Corruption Commission with her concerns.

“My understanding is that she raised those allegations with the [Crime and Corruption] commissioner personally,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

Ms Palaszczuk said the Crime and Corruption Commission released its report into Ipswich City Council on August 14.

She said other councils – Logan, Moreton and Gold Coast – were being investigated by the CCC, as the Opposition repeatedly tried to link Labor to the council.

“What we have seen is the CCC investigating other councils,” she said.

“We have also seen other mayors under investigation.”

The bill would be voted on late on Tuesday afternoon.

Assuming there will be police charges following, surely Ipswich can sue these corrupt people as individuals ?

they did not merit their pay or benefits, take it all back off them.

............... The investigation has resulted in 15 people being charged with 86 criminal offences. Of the 15 people charged, seven are either current or former council employees or councillors. This includes two mayors, two CEOs and one Chief Operating Officer.

Separate to criminal allegations, the investigation identified significant governance failures and cultural issues which were of concern to the CCC. ....................

A Magistrate has found former Ipswich mayor Andrew Antoniolli guilty of 13 fraud-related charges, criticising his testimony for being "largely self-serving and significantly contrived".

The 48-year-old was on trial last month in the Ipswich Magistrates Court for 12 counts of fraud and one count of attempted fraud between 2005 and 2017.

He was today found guilty of all charges, stemming from buying items at charity auctions — including a football jersey, several artworks and a bicycle — and charging them to the council's community donation fund.

The courtroom was filled with Antoniolli's family, friends, media and community members.

Antoniolli's wife began crying when Magistrate Anthony Gett described her husband's witness testimony as "evasive, reflective and deliberately unresponsive to crucial issues".

Audio tapes of the calls made by former Ipswich mayor Paul Pisasale reveal his bizarre effort to extort the ex-boyfriend of his jilted escort.

Pisasale was today sentenced to two years jail, suspended after 12 months, after being convicted of two counts of extortion after the Brisbane District Court heard he dishonestly demanded up to $10,000 from Xin Li.

He testified that his attempts to extract money from Xin Li were to reimburse Yutian Li, a Chinese woman he’d received escort services from, for financial losses she suffered when she uprooted her life to be with Li only for their relationship to fail.

In a series of phone calls, Pisasale posed as a private investigator, demanding compensation from the married man for having deceived his mistress.

He had no idea his phone was tapped and the Crime and Corruption Commission was listening in recording every word.

Is there even 1 council in Australia that isn't corrupt?

Is there even 1 council that Truely looks after their rate payers?

Is there even 1 council in Australia that has a combined IQ of all staff greater than 10?

The answer to the above..........NO, NOT ONE.

Councils are full of either
Criminals who are caught
Or
Criminals waiting to be caught.
I have a dream
A world free from the plague of Islam
A world that has never known the horrors of the cult of death.
My hope is that in time, Islam will be nothing but a bad dream
