Get to higher ground

Post by boxy » Tue Oct 27, 2009 10:49 pm

The committee is calling for a new national approach to managing climate change, rising sea levels and coastal erosion in many Australian communities.

The committee's chair, Labor MP Jennie George, wants an all-government ministerial council.

"This would replace what is often described as complex and highly fragmented arrangements currently applying across jurisdictions, sectors and agencies," she said.

Frankly, I think this sort of thing is needed even without bringing the "climate change" bogeyman into it (good for media coverage though, I guess). People shouldn't be able to build right on the coastline, and then claim insurance when the view comes back to bite them by washing away the sand they built on.
"But you will run your fluffy bunny mouth at me. And I will take it, to play poker."

Just imagine all the pain those poor movie stars, producers and hangers on will suffer in Malibu where they literally build right on the beach.

It is enough to make Nelson Aspin weep.

I reckon this is bull shit.* An entire land bound Country (Holland) is below sea level. It seems to cope.

*I live within 200 yards of the Pacific Ocean..........................

Seems to cope with huge expenditure on dikes etc. Google Delta Plan some time.

And even so it appears the Dutch govt is considering options like moving the whole population to Germany!

What do they intend to do with what is left vacant? The dykes fail. Will Belgium then get all the water over flow from Holland?

Crazy.................probably not likely.

NOT crazy when the whole country is at or below sea level. What the Belgians do is up to them.

Ocean levels are rising because they are getting hotter and because the Greenland icesheets are melting.
