Any of them have a chance to PM?
Any rising stars? Stan may be that man.
I have no issues with Aborigines and want them to succeed. I am just wondering how long before the collective need to be PC will drive an Aborigine PM to power so we can relieve our collective consciences. Uber affirmative action, so to speak.
Then there will be some real reform for aborigines as it would have to be part of his/her platform. Tax free style American Indian reservations so they can have their own casinos..... there's a thought.
There have been 32 aborigines in the ten Australian legislatures, beginning when Neville Bonner entered the Australian Senate on
15 August 1971. You have been away for quite a while it seems.
Seventeen have been elected to the Northern Territory assembly, five to the Australian Federal Parliament, four to the parliament of Western Australia, three to the parliament of Queensland and one each to the parliaments of Tasmania and New South Wales and one to the Australian Capital Territory assembly. Out of the 32 Aboriginal Australians elected to any Australian Parliament, 12 have been women.
Currently; Peris, Wyatt, Lindgren are members, only 1 is ALP. One Nation had aboriginal members running in WA in past elections when neither major party had.
I would have thought Aden Ridgeway had a good chance to become PM, but like any member they have to earn it in their particular party. There are of course other members like Lambie and Brough who claim Aboriginal heritage too.
