Federal politicians claimed almost $48 million in expenses over the first six months of 2015, new documents have revealed.

The latest expenditure report for MPs and senators found that Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce had the highest total, registering $1,073,991.45 in expenses during the period, followed by Justice Minister Michael Keenan and Foreign Minister Julie Bishop.

Mr Joyce also claimed the largest amount on office fit outs, totalling more than $670,000.

Big spender: Joyce tops pile for expenses

Deputy National party leader Barnaby Joyce’s decision to open two new offices, including a ministerial office in the northern NSW town of Armidale, has resulted in the most expensive fit-out claim by a politician for at least five years.

The claim of $670,897 for two offices in his New England electorate is among the latest six months of politicians’ entitlements, published on Thursday by the Department of Finance.

Yes his straight talking has some appeal, but he's still one of the greedier politicians swilling at the trough.
