He's been quite insignificant until recently - almost bland in his persona and appearance, but he's starting to get noticed. He's smarter than he looks and he's been a working man, which is more than can be said for Abbott who has dabbled more in aesthetics than the real world.
Some of us can remember Bill Shorten as being the hero from the Beaconsfield mine disaster. He was impressive. He's well educated with a law degree and has generally been very active in the unions which is understandable as his father was a waterside worker.
Now that Shorten has found his voice again, he comes across as articulate and confident. He's also starting to adopt Abbott's tactics of being a relentlessly critical opposition leader and he's doing it well.
The Coalition's snobbery might have been impressive in the 60's, but we've moved on since then. They're still standing on their pedestals with their noses turned towards the sky, while Shorten is effectively representing egalitarianism.
New scientific research proves that people with big heads have higher than average intelligence.
Edinburgh University researchers, using MRI scans and IQ tests on 48 volunteers, discovered that the larger the head, and therefore the brain, the greater the IQ. A person with a brain of 1,600cc has an IQ of around 125.

You spastic , this clown has never had a real job, cannot string 2 words together without sounding like a stroke patient ,stood around and did fuck all at Beaconsfield not active in the unions in regard to benefitting the members but managed to feather his nest as far as possible, got a shot away at a young labor sleepover and used the dirty labor machine to do away with 2 prime ministers (both of whom needed putting down but that is beside the point

) If you were not simply trolling I could go on

They did an MRI test on a whole 48 volunteers, presumably with Big Heads?

Get used to him - he may just become our next prime minister and if the polls are anything to go by - the majority of people are becoming quickly disillusioned with the Coalition.
More bad news for the government. Can it get any worse than this?
The latest Galaxy poll offered more bad news with
primary support for the government plunging to 38 per cent.
Support for Labor has risen to 41 per cent, while on a two-party preferred basis the government is trailing 10 points behind the federal opposition.

The Abbott government have been behind in most if not all polls since December last year, just six weeks after coming to office.
This is no mans land no government has ever performed this bad before.
No government had ever won an election following such bad polling. The days of pretending it will turn around are over, it will not turn around. I do not want a leadership change, Abbott and Hockey should stay in the positions they have and face the electorate. Those that voted for this shit fight need to take ownership of their mistake.
That said I have to be honest and say I have no confidence a Shorten government will do much better, but they can't be any worse.

I can't warm to Shorten much either, but he has some positive things going for him. His mother-in-law, "Dame" Quentin Bryce (trust Abbott to bring back this regressive crap) would be a good mentor and steer him in the right direction. He has a sense of humour and makes some good comebacks in Parliament.
As far as policies go, the opposition don't usually introduce their policies until a few months before an election. The Coalition left it to the last few days.
Shorten seems bright enough to pick up on his previous mistakes, especially in regard to the influence of factions and the damage it caused to Labor. If Labor have got any hope of winning next time, they need to start working hard now, although they're in an abysmal situation with seats.
I don't think I've ever voted for Labor, although my preferences go to them.

I think it is because we are seeing Labor come out a bit more now and promising to restore things Libs have scrapped
Which things? How is Labor going to finance the restoration of such things that the Libs have scrapped?
What are
they going to scrap to help pay off the debt Gillard and Rudd so kindly left us?
