Snouts in the trough

Post by Jovial Monk » Sat Sep 19, 2009 9:34 am

We always--some more than others--say politicians have their snout in the trough. None more so, it seems than an ex-PM with a social climbing wife.

Fucking Howard no sooner gets kicked out of Kirribilly (and it cost like $2m a year because the Rodent was there and not the Lodge) than he rents, on the taxpayers dollar, a lavish suite overlooking Sydney Harbor and furnishes it lavishly!

The Rodent apparently will make $1m out of publishing his memoirs and makes money out of speaking tours so I really do not see why the taxpayer needs to spend so much money on the prick. Get your snout out the trough you lying arsehole Howard!

Of course, Fraser, Hawke and Keating also make calls on the public purse as ex-PMs but none anywhere near as lavish as Howard.

These days, and on both sides of politics, most MPs could make much more money in private industry. The number of lawyers in Parlt is huge and Ministerial salaries not that big so why do these people go into Parliament? (Not all are like that, Costello, Howard wouldn't do all that well in law or business.) Seeking power, out of idealism?

Why does do we need to fund ex-prime minister's offices, exactly? :?
