There is no way on this Planet that if I incurred a legitimate expense doing business for tax-payers that I would not ask them to pay for it. That they pay it back says they knew it was theft. If I rob a bank, and get caught, handing the proceeds back will not prevent me from being charged.

Maybe Bishop is more justified as 2 or 3 days were spent in meetings and just 2 hours at the wedding - but Joyce & Gambaro have no excuses. Joyce seems to be making a habit of rorting the system. This is the second time in as many weeks. I thought at one stage that he was one of the few half way decent politicians. Seems as though he's got a bigger snout than most of the others.

It's as though these politicians believe they have a taxpayer funded money tree to do and go wherever they please at their pleasure. They spend thousands of dollars at a time - not even caring that to many average Australians that amount would equal one or two months wages.

You'll find plenty of references, but Indian Weddings go for at least three days. In that time, you meet all sorts of people.

Fact is, they flew over in a plane provided by Gina. If this was a genuine expedition to benefit tax payers, they should have declined that, and flown at our expense, all above board. Gina obviously needed that plane for her own purposes, and these arse-holes flew back on commercial flights..............and then said................the taxpayers can pay for that. Someone in authority checked, and they said, "Nah, this is not for the taxpayers, this is for you." And the pricks handed over the money, proving exactly how corrupt their initial taking of our money was. Fact is, they billed the taxpayer who paid up. Then, when their hand was caught in the cookie jar, they handed the lollies back. The bastards should have paid from their own wallets, and then made a claim against Treasury and a decision made. Nah, not these arse-holes ~ they try it on and only give a fuck if they are caught.

I'll bet Slipper can find a few important businessmen he met when he was using our cabcharge vouchers when he was touring the wine districts.

Or they could have thought that they were saving taxpayers money by using Gina's offer.

Seems to me parliamentarians from both sides of politics stuff these rules up... hence my original request.

But it also seems that currently you can put in a request for expenses then, if they are found to be not within the rules, pay them or if already paid for on the "company card" you pay it back.

Aussie being a small town taxi driver would never be able to understand corporate life or expense accounts for high powered executives or politicians.

If your job requires it and that includes social and networking events that are of benefit to the company and that you wouldn't normally be attending unless it was in your capacity of your title then I can't see the problem.
