Money for schools

Post by Leftofcentresalterego » Thu Sep 10, 2009 5:50 am

Every time you pick up a fish and chip wrapper like The Australian, you will be left with the impression that every parent, every p&c, every principal - everyone in the country absolutely hates the money being spent on schools and wants to mail it right back to the government in an envelope.

So as someone who works at a school, I feel duty-bound to return some balance to the debate. When you throw vast sums of money out as fast as you can as stimulus because the shit is hitting the fan in a way that almost no one alive today has ever seen then there are bound to be a few complaints and a few problems with implementation. Most of the issues that we hear about are due to the fact that it was a hasty emergency measure.

There is NOBODY who doesn't want the money, but there are plenty who would prefer that schools be allowed to spend it in exactly the manner they choose. But the real idea of the money was to keep employment going in the vulnerable building sector, with the added bonus of providing long term benefits to schools. So it had to be done quickly.

We have not had construction begin on our new library yet but we have recieved federal funding to paint the entire school from top to bottom. There are some buildings that don't really need it, about half that do need it and a couple that are in dire need of a new coat of paint. Painting a structure that doesn't yet need it does no harm but it does have the bonus that the school wil not need to find the money to have major painting done for years now. So that's good.

There are two painters working and a young apprentice learning his trade. So that's good as well.

And money is being spent buying paint and related materials, propping up jobs at the paint supplier and retailer . So that's good as well.

So I get the shits with all the pissing and moaning and the spinning designed to portray the essentially good thing that the government has done as a complete waste. It is not, it is well worthwhile.

Anyone see on ABC last night (Lateline I think) that some parents are pissed off that because the school is getting some major new building childcare has been moved to art rooms etc and may have to be dicontinued for a few weeks. Yup, never mind about facilities at the school, I might have to look after my own brats for a while and that ain't on!

As Lefty pointed out, the need to spend this money quickly will lead to some inefficiencies but the schools all get new buildings as a result so that is good.

The best way to sort out the whinny pricks is remove the grants, that'll shut them up. I saw one on tele last night whining he didn't want new buildings in his school, cool ,take it off the retards and give it to some school who deserves it, I'd also sack the P@C at the schools who whine, they obviously care more about politics than they do their children.
My sons school is getting a library, we've never had one, the prick on the news last night from Abbotsford public can send his grant to us,we aren't whinny little bitches here, and unlike that asshole care for our kids.

They are selfish pricks arn't they? but thats the rightard way, they always hate it when Labor govs are in power and try to help the public schools out after the neglect of the conservatives.

Heh, that school that was gonna send its grant money back (AS IF!) will keep it (surprise surprise) but want it spent on something else. Well, whiny little fucks hurry up and decide, design & cost & get that done this month and you may be able to.

This is spending to avoid Australia descending into recession you whiny bitches! Successfully too, much to chagrin of Fibs :)

Out of 9500 schools only 49 have complained, a mere 0.05%!

I'd love a list of those schools, I'll bet they are in "Liberal electorates "and that the P@C is run by Liberal wanna be;s.
