Yes, Gillard got emotional introducing the Medicare Levy Bill to help fund the NDIS, a project dear to her heart and just before she went into the House she met with some disabled people who gave her a card expressing their appreciation and thanks for what she had done for them.

Notice it was Macklin, the Minister for Families, who embraced her after the speech—both had done a shitload of work on this.

I am friends with a family who have a severely disabled son—something like MS where the nerves gradually die off—eventually the nerves governing his lungs or heartbeat will die off and the son will die.

His parents have to get up every four hours to turn their son else he gets bedsores, he can’t move himself. Think they might be a bit emotional knowing more care will be available? That they won’t have to rely on charity? That someone will look after their son if they die before him (unlikely as that is.)

roach, I don’t mind senior pollies showing emotion at times. They still are people first.

As Deputy PM one of the portfolios she asked for was social inclusion. I can see she was emotional about this Bill which is about the ultimate in social inclusion.
