THE Liberal Party has replaced its controversial "illegal boats" billboard in West Perth, just 24 hours after it was erected.

Overnight, vandals painted over the sign's tally of 641 boat arrivals and replaced it with a lone zero. The words "no crime to seek asylum" were also spray painted over the sentence "Labor has lost control of Australia's borders."

This afternoon, the billboard was replaced with a generic poster, featuring Liberal MPs Darryl Moore and Michael Keenan.

Opposition leader Tony Abbott unveiled the illegal boats sign at the intersection of Roe and Sutherland streets yesterday, denouncing the federal government's asylum seeker arrivals record.

In Geraldton this morning, Mr Abbott said, "You can vandalise a billboard but you can't change the facts.''

Seriously - ppl always vandalise things. Especially during political campaigns. Dont tell me the "other side" doesnt do it because they do. This got on the media precisely because the media wanted it to. Abbott is a liar and he was dog-whistling his followers.

Abbott being in government will make no difference to the number of boat people coming here. There was a warning from Indonesia this morning about Abbott's pathetic bragging about turning the boats around.

You whinge about Gillard's lie re the carbon tax. Abbott hasn't stopped lying and bragging since he became leader. He's an attack dog only - everything else about him is rhetoric and bulldust.

I have no problem with the conga line cheer squad barracking for their team but what has the world come to when people accept such blatant incompetence purely because it leads their party of choice?

The economy is doing quite well at the moment and real estate is buoyant because of low interest rates and low inflation. All that will change under an Abbott government when he opens the doors wider to foreign business (not investment), of which we benefit little. When he starts rescinding taxes - where do the right whingers think he's going to get the money for his "promises"?

Even big business isn't making any commentary about Abbott's promises being great for the economy and it's so close to the election. It also looks like the media is slowly backing off from their attacks on Gillard.
