Australia breaking its own Laws about recording?
I doubt it, unless they are indiscriminately intercepting domestic communications.

It seems they can if there is any credibility to this 'Echelon' thing.

Oh, there's little doubt they can, in this day and age. Whether they do or not is another matter.

That enigma 'Dr. Karl' who confessed today that, on an issue he had been spruiking on about for decades, he was wrong, raised this thing today on ABC radio, and while he was careful to make clear he had no proof, was clearly indicating he believed they are 'doing it.'

Good grief... Echelon hasn't been a secret for years and they even use it on TV and in movies what rock have you been hiding under?

Echelon has been an open secret since at least the eighties.

It avoids breaking the law by having the US, UK, and Aus spy on each other's citizens, not their own. Clever, eh?

See you all in about 10 days, I'm off on holidays (My plane leaves tonight) and I may/may not log in when I get there.

Hugs to all, even to tards Aussie and boxy. :thumb

Anyway, speaking of global security, .... how do you all feel about having been spied on by a global eyeball?

:bgrin

It doesn't really bother me, personally, though I am not sure if I like the idea of our own intelligence being spied on.

A nations privacy and independence is important.

:nah .... Though I doubt Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott agree with me on this.

Sometimes I think we can share too much... :nah

Take Israel for instance, lol, they probably knew Gillard had no intentions of voting for or against Palestine before her own inner-party members knew.

If they have the power of knowing what we are thinking/doing well in advance, then they potentially have the opportunity to alter the outcome of important decisions also.

Big Brother phenomena.

This thing seems to have some current comment.

Why doesn't this have a much bigger public profile? Does no-one care, or are we all afraid of a knock on the door for even typing the letters, e c h e l o n?
