[Allegedly] charged.

I say allegedly because none of the MSM have picked up on this yet.

It's in the media now. Amazing how Slipper gets charged over an alleged $900 cabcharge rort - yet so many other politicians get away with fraud and embezzlement amounting to thousands of dollars. Peter Reith comes to mind. We hear stories year after year about these thieves and when the government changes - the allegations fade away.

Sorry - I jumped ahead a bit. It's a summons to Court.
The Australian Federal Police have not confirmed what the summons is about, but it it is understood it relates to Mr Slipper’s alleged misuse of travel entitlement and that the alleged breaches carry a maximum five year jail term.

The Queensland MP is due to appear in the Canberra Magistrates Court on February 15, where he can expect to be formally charged.

The police statement said it was "in relation to three offences of Dishonestly Causing a Risk of a Loss to the Commonwealth pursuant to section 135.1(5) Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth)."

...

It is understood they relate to three Comcar trips in 2010, in which Mr Slipper - who was then a Coalition MP - travelled beyond the allowed Canberra region. The trips are understood amount to about $900.

Excerpts...
FORMER Speaker Peter Slipper could face the possibility of a jail sentence if found guilty of offences after being summonsed to appear in court over allegations he rorted his Cabcharge entitlements.
After an investigation lasting nearly nine months, the Australian Federal Police said it had served Mr Slipper with a summons "in relation to three offences of Dishonestly Causing a Risk of a Loss to the Commonwealth".

The alleged offences would breach the Commonwealth Criminal Code, if proven, and carry a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment.
The former Speaker has been forced to repay more than $20,000 during the past decade in relation to family travel and other entitlement perks.

Not in the life time of this Parliament. And, he was your toy boy when the alleged offences occurred. I am looking forward to any Trial. Imagine the cast of thousands!

Is that why Gillard promoted him to speaker?

He must have met all the prerequisites for an ALP appointee
